1) State the purpose of boiling glucose solution:
- To eliminate dissolved oxygen
2) State the observation snd explain the outcome of the experiment:
a) Keep the mixture (glucose solution + yeast) in a refrigerator.
Ans: No foam is observed. Yeast has zymase which is an enzyme at low temperature is deactivated.
b) Add the yeast in hot boiled glucose.
Ans: No foam formed in the mixture. Hot boiled glucose solution at high temperature willl denature zymase which is an enzyme found in yeast.
c) Glucose solution is replaced with lime solution.
Ans: No foam is formed. Lime water has low pH value and it is an acidic medium. Reactivity of zymase which is an enzyme found in yeast will be affected.
