South Korea's KOSPI dropped 3.46% to fall below 6,600 points.
Traders reported that the Reserve Bank of India sold US dollars before market open to prop up the rupee, a move triggered by a sharp spike in oil prices.
Kpler data shows four bulk cargo ships passed the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, down from 10 the day before and below the 10-day average of 13. The group included one VLCC, one Panamax tanker, one Kamsarmax bulk carrier, and one medium tanker. One ship entered and three left. Kpler notes numbers may change if ships turn off their tracking signals. Meanwhile, 18 vessels crossed the Bab al-Mandeb on Tuesday (seven in, 11 out), lower than the 10-day average of 24. These included two Aframax and one Suezmax tanker.
Indian government bonds opened weaker. The 10-year yield hit 7% for the first time in three months. The 2036 bond yield briefly touched 7.0013% at the open, its highest since June 4. It closed Tuesday at 6.9581%.
Iranian IRGC deputy political commander Yadollah Javani warned Arab nations to expel US forces or face military retaliation. Speaking to Tasnim News, he urged them to reclaim US military bases.
