So today's learning session was about Cmake. This is an open source tool for creating a build file for C++. The interesting fact about it is that it was initially developed to solve the portability and scalability issues of C++ because of native builds were different across environments. But now we use as a foundational build configuration for C++. The tools has been here for 20+ years and is evolving.

I was born in a place where mornings started early, shoes collected more dust than memories, and everyone knew everyone: including what you ate for breakfast ๐. Life was simple. If you lost something, it was probably behind you. Or someone had already found it and was judging you for losing it ๐.
Then I moved to a slightly bigger place. Same sun, more noise. Suddenly, crossing the road felt like a competitive sport ๐ซ. People walked faster, dreams walked with them, and I learned that โlaterโ could mean anything from five minutes to next week ๐.
Next stop ๐: a place where the city finally felt serious. Traffic had opinions. Time moved quicker. People asked, โWhat do you want to be?โ and for the first time, I realized โhappyโ was not an acceptable answer ๐คทโโ๏ธ. I started collecting goals I didnโt know how to carry yet.
Then came the big city. Everything was louder, taller, faster. Buildings looked down on you like they had expectations. Everyone was busy doing something important, or at least pretending very well ๐ค. I learned to nod confidently even when I had no idea what was going on ๐. Survival skill unlocked ๐.
And then one day, I woke up somewhere far from where I started. Different weather. Different accents. Same me just wearing a thicker jacket and overthinking in different languages now. The streets were orderly, the queues were serious, and people apologized even when you bumped into them.
Looking back, I realize something funny. I changed places, accents, and habits but deep down, Iโm still that kid trying to figure things out, just with bigger dreams, better stories, and a lot more discoveries.
Some random Sunday shit. Hope you enjoyed it ๐.

Finally I met my mentor in person. Damn he's got good fashion. I'm planning to ask him to be my fashion mentor ๐.

Now to the technical aspect. Something I noticed what my company does well is documentation. They had a whole quarter dedicated to it. As coders we don't feel like documenting because it's boring. But remember you'll have to refer to your codes a year later or someone will be working on it when you're unavailable. Even If you're working in startups, trust me It'll pay off. It doesn't mean you've to take a whole quarter to document but take an hour of your day to document what you've done that day if you're working in startup.

While some task is running behind let me say that one advise of the day. Follow the rule of third in everything you do. You should feel happy about the thing your doing for 1/3rd of the time, You should feel normal or usual about it for the other 1/3rd of it and the last 1/3rd of it should feel like challenging, boring, exhausting and should make You question whether you made the right decision or not. Each of them have their own attributes to you. The first one will make you feel like your doing something good. The second makes it part of your daily routine so it feels normal. The third one will challenge you to grow and push yourself above the limit.
Lovely Tuesday y'all ๐.

Dagmawi Babi's Meetup is an exclusive event organized by Dagmawi Babi and his team as a thank you to all the incredible individuals, creators, event organizers, companies and communities improving and accelerating the tech and design ecosystem in Ethiopia.
It's a thank you for taking risks, for pioneering new ventures, for taking the blame, for investing so much of yourself into the benefits of everyone else, for spending months building epic things, for spending countless nights preparing events, for imagining a community that can be much better than what it is and working towards your vision.
We're going to spend an incredible full day where we listen to insightful keynotes, explore project showcases, attend a live podcast (Devtopia), hold an in-person Creator Awards (by Codenight) and so much more.
The date is Jan 24, 2026 and the event will take place at ALX Hub. Visit the event site for more info. Thank you again and I can't wait to see you there!

My boss's boss is here for the week. Now I've to get in early and leave late.

Had a 1:1 with my boss's boss and it was nice. Here the things I found interesting from the conversation.
1. As you grow and learn focus on things that you enjoy and that doesn't seem to you that you're exerting energy to make them even though you are. Learn more about yourself than anything.
2. Learn how to work in a professional setup where the risks are high stake. For those you need clear plan and execution unlike Uni projects.
3. Roll outs and roll out processes are import but also roll back and roll back processes are as important if not more. So whatever you're doing work on your roll outs and roll back processes.
I'll add more as I remember. Yaw Ye 2GB memory guday honobgn new ๐.

Oya I remember smtg he mentioned. He also stated that everything you do should be to find the balance in between. This was raised when I asked him what his expectations are for the team as well as me individually. He started by saying his tasks is to find the balance between overwhelming us and underwhelming us. The more you move in life you need to find the balance of the things in your direct and peripheral views as for the rest of the things you don't know are the things you don't know.
Have a lovely balanced life ๐.
