The figure up front is income — the BTC a machine mines. It's not what you actually earn.

Your real return has three parts:

💸 Costs — electricity and maintenance
📊 Resale — what the hardware's still worth

Real return = income − costs + resale. Count that resale line and a mining position holds up even when Bitcoin goes nowhere — the part "just buy BTC" skips.
