UN Climate Change Conference (#COP25) in Madrid, Global Climate Action brought together leaders from across sectors and borders for a lively series of events, which were given concrete definition with the publication of the Climate Action Pathways.

Here are the important highlights of this year #UNFCCC summit,

1. An event organized by the World Travel and Tourism Council in collaboration with Global Climate Action about the need to take climate action in the Travel and Tourism sector to enable its transformation to a sustainable industry, under the umbrella of WTTC’s ambition for the sector to be climate neutral by 2050.

2. Among the main topics discussed was how young people can lead climate action and accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement.

3. A group of 86 fashion companies issued a public call to political leaders around the world to partner with them to deliver effective and ambitious climate action.

4. Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) also held at UNFCCC CoP25. ACE in the context of the international climate change process refers to education, training, public awareness, public participation, public access to information and international cooperation on climate change.

5. A workshop of (big) data experts concluded with the adoption of a collective statement by the climate data community.

'Wild Karnataka' documentary to release across eight cities on January 17

The 53 minute-long documentary will release on January 17 across PVR theatres in Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, Pune, Nagpur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Indore, Raipur, Nashik, Surat, Gurugram, Lucknow and Ludhiana.

Shot by a team of 20 camera persons using drones and 15 stationed cameras across Karnataka, over a period of four years, the film shows the true wild side of the state, which is normally only associated with IT, medicine and politics.

"The largest portion of Western Ghats is in Karnataka and this has been showcased in the film. It is the first-ever Indian Natural History Film to be screened in any movie theatre in India. The movie has been shot using 4K Ultra HD technology. Since it is such ace quality, it is only best when it is screened on large screen," a forest department official said.

The voice-over for the movie has been given by renowned conservationist Sir David Attenborough and music by Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej.

State of Indian Birds - one page report

The State of India’s Birds report was created to assess the conservation status of the majority of species that regularly occur in the country. Worldwide, common and widespread species are declining; but in India, lack of information has meant that conservation attention has been focussed on only a few species (usually large, charismatic and threatened).

The report fills this gap by using over 10 million observations uploaded to the eBird platform by more than 15,500 birdwatchers to evaluate the distribution range size of 867 Indian birds, and their trends in abundance in both the long term (over 25+ years) and currently (past 5 years). Using these three measures, plus information from the IUCN Red List of global threat status, this report places Indian species into Low, Moderate and High categories of Conservation Concern for India. A large number of species that are thought to be common and widespread find themselves as of High Conservation Concern.
