When wild animals are kept in captivity, they tend to suffer from stress and boredom due to detachment from natural habitats and social structures. This distress can lead to frequent escape attempts that jeopardize both animal safety and public well-being. In a world where environmental sustainability and biodiversity preservation dominate the agenda, confining animals in inadequate conditions is often met with widespread disapproval. Moreover, the commercialization of zoos at the expense of animal welfare has sparked outrage among the public. Given the irresponsible and profit-driven use of zoos, governmental intervention to shut down these institutions as a means of wildlife protection appears justifiable.

Despite these arguments against zoos, in my view, they do more good than harm. Firstly, zoological establishments act as crucial havens for endangered species, shielding them from external threats such as poaching, habitat destruction, starvation, and predators. Although captive animals may contend with stress and anxiety, the provision of medical care and proper nutrition greatly extends their lifespan compared to their wild counterparts. Secondly, zoos make a big difference in terms of public awareness. By facilitating direct encounters between animals and humans, these institutions can cultivate a deep appreciation for wildlife, potentially leading to heightened environmental consciousness and responsible stewardship.

In conclusion, while recognizing legitimate concerns surrounding the inhumane and profit-driven aspects of zoos, I maintain that their benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Only through the operation of ethical and educational zoos can we secure the survival and prosperity of endangered animal species in the modern world.

In terms of overall transformations, the park has shifted its focus towards enhancing recreational facilities and accessibility with the addition of a cafe, a children's playground, and an amphitheater for concerts, as well as a new underground car park entrance in place of old features. Of particular note is the relocation of seating areas.

In 1920, a central fountain greeted visitors entering from Eldon Street, which has since been replaced by a rose garden surrounded by full seating. Adjacent to the new garden, the former musicians' stage has been removed to make room for a larger amphitheater for concerts within the park. This development, however, came at the expense of seating on the left side and the previous rose garden in the bottom left corner. Despite these alterations, the entrances at the top and bottom, along with the upper left rose garden, have remained unchanged in their original positions.

The upper right corner of the park now hosts a cafe, replacing the former rose garden, while the location of a water plant pond has been converted into a children's play area. Additionally, a new water feature has been introduced instead of the previous glasshouse and several seats. Finally, a new entrance to the underground car park now leads to the water feature.
