This initiative disqualifies the myth about the UPSC exam being one of the “toughest examination in the world” by hyper-simplifying everything from Syllabus to strategy- Scientifically

I would like to share some excellent bite-sized content for Ethics. These are hand-picked, authoritative and should add a lot of value to your GS 4 prep.

This language, type of content and thought process is what the UPSC wants in my best analysis. I have not found a more authoritative source about what Ethics OFFICIALLY is, other than this stuff. The chairperson is the former cabinet secy, who literally wrote the book on Ethics- Prabhat Kumar. I'm assuming this but the bureaucrats who write and publish these newsletters are the same people you will find in LBSNAA and UPSC as members, secretaries etc.

Enjoy and learn

Poets are legislators- model essay.pdf
1.9 MB
This is an essay written by a student who is attempting mains exam this year. I'm sharing it because it's an exceptional essay on a very challenging topic. Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world- is a topic which requires a fair amount of content specificity. I would not suggest anyone who isn't an English lit student to attempt it.

Whatever the writer's background, this essay is better than any other Ive read on the same topic.

Read through it, notice the language, expression, structure and use it in your own writing.

Hello everyone,

I have scheduled a special live session today at 7 PM about the Uniform Civil Code but this session is not a lecture about the UCC and I will not bore you with the details.

The reason for picking this topic is that it is a perfect case study to understand how our nation works wrt grand ideas. It is a legal, ethical, political and individual debate all rolled into one. Wrt to the UPSC exam, it is highly inter-disciplinary topic which pertains to polity, society, current affairs and ethics.

Such is the nature of all national debates- they cut across subjects and it is only through independent analysis that we come to appreciate the complexity of implementing goals in real life. This appreciation and maturity is what sets apart an amateur from an advanced aspirant.

I hope through today's discussion to acquaint you with many other relevant topics such as Fundamental Rights, Directive Principles of State Policy etc

See you at 7 PM today.

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share something personal today.

Its a matter of great pride for me that brilliant people like you consider me their mentor- but it pales in comparison to the pride I feel when those brilliant people become successful.

Such was my experience with a protégé, Yogender aka Yogi who cracked the IFS exam this year with AIR 136 and is now writing UPSC CSE Mains. The story of his success is long and interesting but what's more valuable is that he is a case-study of a person who has a knack for cracking competitive exams.

I wanted to learn from this knack and share it with everyone so we sat in front of a camera and recorded a candid conversation about UPSC, mental health, CSAT, Math and the 'code' to crack any, and all competitive exams.

I suggest you watch this conversation and pick up the best parts for yourself. And try to relate to it and imagine yourself, as vividly as possible, in Yogender's shoes when you clear the exam.

Stay smart,
Ravi Kapoor

IMPORTANT SURVEY

UPSC prep is not cheap. The opportunity cost is massive in terms of money and time. Careers can take a serious hit while doing UPSC prep wherein the prime years of one's professional life are invested. I know this very well and understand the anxiety which it brings to students...

The issue of having Plan B during UPSC preparation is an open-challenge which I want to address. I hope to create a structure wherein students can do degrees simultaneously with UPSC prep- I think it would work beautifully if the degree supplements UPSC prep and vice-versa.
Hello everyone,

Some UPSC toppers are different from others. Today I'd like to introduce someone like that- Akanksha UPSC CSE AIR 205 who is now serving in the IAS.

The most interesting thing to be learned from her story is that she did NOT take coaching classes and mostly prepared herself. She was able to find her way through the maze of UPSC preparation and got through with flying colors- that is unusual.

Akanksha's writing on Essay and Ethics always stood out which I appreciated before she wrote mains. She has an academic bent of mind and someone who you can just tell, is fit for being an IAS/IPS/IRS officer. After Mains, she took free lectures for students of this mentorship program.

Here is the conversation, her story and message which I think we can all learn from-

Hello everyone,

I hope this finds you well and happy.

Tomorrow at 7 Pm I will be conducting a LIVE Essay Masterclass for advanced aspirants. I have in mind particularly students who are writing UPSC CSE Mains this year.

The genesis of this session comes from about 100+ Essay evaluations I did over the past few weeks for students of my Mains Supergroup (composed entirely of students writing Mains this year).

Using the benefit of hindsight of these evaluations, I noticed some striking patterns in their writing about structuring, content and expression which I will share in the session. We will see many writing samples along the way too.

Even though beginners may find that the difficulty level of this session is higher than normal, they should not be intimidated and should seek to learn as much as possible and enjoy the intellectual conversation therein.

See you there,

Ravi Kapoor
