The May Edition of Afternoons with an Author will discuss the book Madam Commissioner : The Extraordinary Life of an Indian Police Chief,’ by Meeran Chadha Borwankar.
From the 1981 batch of Indian Police Service, Meeran shares her journey over thirty-eight chapters. The book offers an authentic kaleidoscope of the many facets of the life of an honest police officer. She writes about her tenure as Director General, Bureau of Police Research and Development & National Crime Records Bureau. Chief of Maharashtra Prisons, Commissioner of Police Pune, DIG CBI, Chief of Aurangabad & Satara police. DCP of different zones in Mumbai and Chief of Crime Branch, Mumbai. Recipient of President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Services, Meeran has authored three books: ‘Leaves of Life,’ ‘Inspector Chougule,’ and ‘Madam Commissioner’ being the latest.
The Lead Discussant for the session is also the recipient of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and present Uttarakhand, Director General of Police, Abhinav Kumar. An avid reader, sportsperson and a regular contributor on police and internal security in the Indian Express.
The session will be moderated by Sanjeev Chopra, Festival Director of Valley of Words.
