Designing spaces for people and animals: How she partners eco experts and builders to create Bird Paradise
It shows designers, engineers and contractors can collaborate from the outset to build sustainable developments. Read more at straitstimes.com. Read more at straitstimes.com.
𦩠Keryn Ng and Ou Guojian from Mandai Wildlife Group were part of the team that designed and built the Bird Paradise. The project is an example of collaborative success, showing how designers, engineers and contractors who work from the outset can efficiently construct innovative and sustainable spaces for Singaporeans to live, work and play.
Bird Paradise was built using smart solutions and innovations, underpinned by the usage of BIM. BIM enabled digital twinning, which real world data could be fed into the digital model that helped improve productivity. BIM also was used to design and manufacture of the tall structural steel columns, and 3D scanning was used to ensure correct installation.
π§ It also boasts progressive features, such as the energy-smart Ocean Network Express Penguin Cove (BCA Green Mark Platinum certified!), enhanced ecological connectivity for local biodiversity, and wastewater recycling plants at the Mandai Wildlife Reserve β contributing to Singapore's efforts in building a more sustainable built environment.

Embracing BIM as an Integral Part of Contract Documents: Transforming the Construction Industry
βοΈ Despite the clear advantages of BIM, many in the construction industry continue to depend on 2D drawings as contract documents, with BIM models being issued to contractors solely for reference.
Integrating BIM alongside 2D drawings as part of contract documents not only enables better planning and coordination, but also improves efficiency as builders can build on consultants' models, rather than recreating from scratch. This also establishes BIM as the Single Source of Truth (SSoT) for all project stages.
β‘οΈ Swipe to find out how various project stakeholders stand to benefit from incorporating BIM into contract documents, and how the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) project has successfully implemented and benefitted from it.
