Today Biden announced the new 15 million barrels sale of oil from strategic reserve, stating it will strengthen the energy system and lower the prices for petroleum.
This will lower the prices indeed, but only in the short run, for the next 1-2 months (suddenly very convenient for November Congress elections), but it will increase the prices in the long run, as SPR will need to get refilled again.
SPR was constructed to be an emergency fund to literally save economics from potential disasters on energy like it happened during Arab spring in 1973. But current Biden administration is exploiting this emergency mechanism for its own political benefits (meanwhile printing trillions of new dollars) and making US energy system even more vulnerable to energy shocks in the future.
FYI with the current level of SPR deterioration Bidon single handedly brought SPR levels to those of 1980s. What a pity!
