I believe us to be naturally malicious.
BUT there is good in all of us.
It's just that it sometimes results in weakness.
Not necessarily because of the Self interest parameter as some of you have mentioned in the comments. I appreciate the point raised here though.
Conflict is in our nature, domination is an essential part of any relationship.
There will always be a dominant and dominate side.
Keep in mind that it doesn't necessarily a toxic relationship. It just means that one side will always impose their will on the other.
Someone who is agreeable will tend to easily surrender not to offend or bother the person in front. While this is a sign of benevolence, that person will often see themselves stepped on and disrespected.
To make it make sense:
We're neither benevolent nor malicious.
It's just that being benevolent will often have less advantages than being malicious.
Just don't harm people on purpose.
Dont let them harm you either.

You'll lose A LOT of time listening to people complaining about this and that.
Worst part is they're very often not ready to apply or even receive advice.
There are very rare situations where people deserve your attention.
Don't waste your time with people wasting their own existence.
People who don't want to change and are motivated don't deserve to be saved.
And even the one that do deserve it, will only change in ways that suit them.
Instead of helping, inspire them.
Actions will always be louder than words.
Let them look up to you; that's how you can help.
That's how you can save those you cherish.

Get people to think you're talking about situational circumstances.
Include many parameters and niche down the topic of the conversation.
That's your point.
Now, as the person in front raises valid argument, you get broader and less specific.
Deviate to the bigger picture and make them think that they're being too focused on specifics.
Until you reach the point of common sense.
Common sense is where you both agree.
Assuming the person in front is reasonable.
Thats how you make sure to at least finish on a draw when you don't have enough arguments to prove your initial point.
