Thank you to my running mate Representative Justin Wilmeth for inviting me to be his special guest at the Opening Day for the 2024 Legislative Session!
Today, the Legislature passed a death resolution concerning the late Sandra Day O'Connor and a resolution stating Arizona's unanimous support for Israel. Additionally, many members joined together on the lawn for a presentation on ESAs where we laid out our plan for 2024.
I look forward to keeping you up to date with the Legislature throughout 2024 and to representing you in person next year!

Would you vote for legislation that requires people to be citizens to vote and that prevents people from voting for more than one candidate in a given race?
HCR2001 is a great piece of legislation introduced this year by Representatives Alex Kolodin, @AustinForArizona , and Selina Bliss alongside Senator Shawnna Bolick. This concurrent resolution would do just those things if it is able to make it through both chambers and the voters - regardless of what the 9th Floor thinks.
I'd vote for this piece of legislation. What are your thoughts?

Recently, Governor Glenn Youngkinin in VA signed a bipartisan bill prohibiting police quotas. This year, AZ Representatives Alex Kolodin, Analise Ortiz, Justin Heap, John Gillette, Cory McGarr, David Marshall, and Neal Carter have introduced a bipartisan bill doing the same in Arizona.
A study done in 2015 found that as tickets declined during the early 2000s, so did traffic injuries and fatalities. Additionally, 8 in 10 officers were found in a National Police Research Platform study to be concerned that their agency is measuring amount of activity over quality of work.
Our officers don't want to fill quotas. Most citizens are opposed to quotas on both sides of the aisle. I'm happy to see this bipartisan piece of legislation and am curious to see how Hobbs responds to it.

Photo radar cameras are extraordinarily unpopular in Arizona. Kari Lake made it part of her platform to get rid of them during her gubernatorial campaign, and legislators from both sides of the aisle voted to pass the bill to prohibit them last year.
Senator @WendyRogersAZ has introduced a new resolution, SCR1001, which will go directly to the people and ask us if we want to continue Arizona's photo radar policies.
If you want to see this bill passed - sign up to Request to Speak and make your voice heard. The resolution will be heard on Tuesday, January 16th in committee at 9:00am!
DM if you need help with RTS and I can forward you resources!

What do we sometimes do when the Governor vetoes a popular bill which passed with bipartisan support in the legislature?
We run it again - but this time - to the people.

Imagine that you're a Jewish student on one of our University campuses... and against your will, part of your tuition is given to organizations like SJP which hate you.
Well, Representatives from both sides of the aisle took notice and now we have a bipartisan piece of legislation which would allow students to decide how their student activity fees are allocated.
Thank you to Reps Alex Kolodin, Consuelo Hernandez, and Michael Carbone for working on #HB2178 together and @austinforarizona for laying the groundwork last year. Very happy to see bipartisan bills ensuring our individual and religious liberties.
If you want to speak on the bill, you can Request to Speak (RTS) online and - if you have time - come down to the Capitol next Tuesday at 2:00pm to make your voice heard during a public comment!

The ticket resales market has become a nightmare for both those putting on events and those going to them.
A bipartisan bill was just introduced to counter this with some common sense measures that you might be surprised aren't already law.
The bill is being heard in committee today and I'll keep you updated on its progress throughout the legislative session!

It's kinda dystopian that Biden is implementing a $125 million dollar study to see if we should be taxing people based on vehicle mileage...
NOT IN ARIZONA! Senators Jake Hoffman and Justine Wadsack alongside Representatives Joseph Chaplik, Justin Heap, Laurin Hendrix, Rachel Jones, Alex Kolodin, Cory McGarr, and Jackie Parker introduced SB1010 - a bill which would prohibit state/county/municipal mileage taxes in AZ.
There's also a ballot resolution version - SCR1002 - that may wind up on our ballots this November!
People deserve Freedom of Movement. If you want to let your voice be heard on this bill - Request to Speak (RtS) on https://AZLeg.Gov or visit https://EZAZ.org and they'll make it as easy as pie!

We come to you today with the most heartbreaking and regrettable news. Our dearly beloved Lisa Blankenship, the co-founder of EZAZ.org passed away peacefully in her sleep last night. Lisa was the foundational force behind the creation of our grassroots efforts.
She was a fierce supporter of President Trump and 2nd amendment rights. A legal immigrant from Canada, Lisa became an American citizen on June 4th, 2020, so that she could vote for the re-election of her President, Donald Trump. For years prior, she was an active Republican in the South Phoenix area and assisted people in understanding how the Legislature works with the Arizona People’s Lobbyist.
Just before becoming a citizen, she recruited Merissa Hamilton to run for Phoenix Mayor to ensure President Trump had the grassroots support needed to have every chance to pull through with a victory. Her efforts led to stopping the defund the police movement, including a BLM plaza and a strong rebuke against vaccine mandates and lockdowns, leading to a 2500+ person march from the Arizona Legislature to the City of Phoenix, which successfully canceled mandates for City employees.
Following the election, Lisa worked on election integrity efforts, which led to an indictment of voter fraud from a deceased voter’s ballot being cast. Through the election, she expressed concerns about the spread of misinformation from the media and wanted to find a way to encourage people to read and understand what’s on their ballot before voting. Lisa, Merissa, and another key volunteer from the Mayoral campaign came together to create a model to make civic action easy as pie, and thus, EZAZ.org was birthed in late March of 2021.
A true friend to humanity and a source of both entertainment and wisdom, she hoped that her legacy would be one of laughter, learning, and a touch of mischief. Lisa helped sign up over 4,000 people at the Capitol to empower their voices to be heard and be the boss of their government.

The "Tamale Bill" is BACK!
After the failed veto override last year (due to 12 House Democrats changing their votes), the "Tamale Bill" is back and better than ever!
Representatives Alma Hernandez and Travis Grantham have worked hard on paving the way forward for #HB2042 - the new "Tamale Bill" which should hopefully see passage this year.
Unfortunately, some Representatives like JUDY SCHWIEBERT may still vote against the bill because they believe that there should be a "CAP" on how much income you can earn from your own home...
