Over $7M has been stolen this week by the same threat actor who compromised multiple X accounts.

The victim had spent five years holding cryptocurrency before losing it all after connecting their wallet to a phishing site.

⚠️JUST IN: $42,300 lost due to an address poisoning attack

Looks like victim was holding ETH for a few months and decided to move full amount to an address he normally uses. First transfer of 1 $ETH went through correctly as always.

But the poisoning bot started spamming immediately and the rest, 16.97 $ETH, went to a fake address.

This attack is by far the biggest of all his successful ones.

The attackers left a message saying “we are whitehats. contact us on chain” and are requesting a 20% bounty in exchange for returning the stolen funds.

🇲🇽 JUST IN: Mexican musician and his pregnant wife, young daughter and maid were murdered in Mexico for $BTC

This week Mexican musician Jonathan Meléndez, his pregnant wife, young daughter, and housemaid were tragically murdered in Atizapán.

Authorities quickly arrested the suspects, which notably included an associate who was explicitly aware of Meléndez's Bitcoin holdings.

It highlights the most fatal vulnerability in self-custody: OpSec failure. If the wrong people know what you hold, you become a target.

🚨 Malone Lam Set to Plead Guilty in $240M Social Engineering Scam

22-year-old Malone Lam is set to plead guilty tomorrow, September 8, over his role in a 2024 social engineering scam that stole $240 million in Bitcoin.

It will be his first court appearance since his arrest in 2024. According to prosecutors, he will face at least 14 years in prison.

⚠️Tether Freezes $39M Linked to Xinbi Guarantee

Tether has frozen 39,270,000 USDT across 10 different wallets linked to the Chinese Xinbi Guarantee marketplace, which is known for money laundering and operating as an illicit crypto marketplace with $18B in on-chain volume.

Chinese investor @fugui has commented that the Xinbi team is very saddened and has expressed regret for the users whose money was frozen. They also added that the process of unfreezing large amounts of USDT is harder than expected and that they are helpless in getting the funds unfrozen.

⚠️JUST IN: Osmosis Freezes $1.8M in BTC After nBTC Exploit

Osmosis froze 22.65 BTC worth nearly $1.8M after an attacker exploited Nomic’s nBTC bridge through a double-spend attack.
The attacker created fraudulent nBTC affecting Osmosis Alloyed BTC with 39.84 nBTC representing around 36% of its backing.

Osmosis halted deposits withdrawals minting and redemptions while containing the incident
