▫️Australian couple sentenced to decades in prison for child sex abuse after using victims as ‘playthings’ - Childcare predators handed 63-year sentence for 'disturbing' abuse
Two men who committed hundreds of acts of child sexual abuse - including against family members and kids under their watch at a childcare centre - have been handed a combined 63-year sentence for their crimes. The duo were in a relationship with each other before the busts under an Australian Federal Police-led taskforce that revealed one of the worst child abuse cases in the nation's history.
Following their arrests, the men pleaded guilty to hundreds of serious child abuse offences, including aggravated sexual intercourse with very young children, in March 2022. The older man, who worked at a childcare centre, was convicted of 248 offences, including 195 acts of a sexual nature against 27 children.
The younger man was convicted of 106 offences, including physical acts against seven children, including some who were the children of his sisters.

▫️Convicted child-rapist faces WA court after alleged discovery of child abuse material on his phone
A convicted child-rapist "obsessed" with infecting people with HIV has been arrested in Western Australia's north. Police allege the man was trying to meet a 12-year-old boy for sex and that "significant" abuse material was found on his phone.
The 53-year-old Broome man, whose name has been suppressed, appeared in Broome Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with possessing child exploitation material and intending to procure a child under 13 for sexual activity.

▫️‘Ineffective’: Home Affairs hammered over trafficking investigation failures
The Home Affairs department has failed to effectively regulate migration agents, botching investigations into serious complaints including at least one allegation of sex trafficking.
It found the department did not properly monitor agents and had not used the data it had available to take risks from poor conduct out of the immigration system. The auditor-general noted that while the department did not prepare a “case investigation summary” for its officers it did prepare a “media handling strategy”.
