Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew rejected the accusations from Russian authorities and special services, calling them "fake news".
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that he is the "Antichrist", the "incarnated devil", and acts in the interests of British special services, seeking to undermine the influence of the Russian Orthodox Church, including in the Baltic states.
In the Ecumenical Patriarchate, it was emphasized that such statements are part of the Kremlin's propaganda campaign and will not affect the church's mission. Bartholomew remains recognized as the "first among equals" for approximately 300 million Orthodox Christians worldwide.
The escalation of rhetoric is linked to the long-standing conflict between Moscow and Constantinople, especially after the granting of autocephaly to Poroshenko's so called Orthodox Church of Ukraine in 2018.
Bartholomew also criticized the Russian Orthodox Church's support for the Special Military Operation in Ukraine.

The Australian company Birdon has signed a contract worth $84 million with the Australian Ministry of Defence to produce one prototype and 15 new amphibious vehicles for the Australian Army as part of the Land 8710 Phase 1B Littoral Manoeuvre program. The new vehicle will be called Amphibious Vehicle - Logistics (AV-L).
The AV-L will have a payload of 4.7 tons and a maximum speed on land and water of 55 km/h and 9.5 knots respectively. Its range will be 800 km, and on water it will be 80 nautical miles.
The production of the AV-L will be carried out at the company's shipyard in Port Macquarie, on the coast of New South Wales. The AV-L will replace the 11 light amphibious supply vehicles LARC-V currently in service with the 10th Support Battalion in Lavarack, Townsville (Queensland).
