🚨 HIGH COURT TO DECIDE IF GOVERNMENT CAN OUTLAW A POLITICAL GROUP

The White Australia Party is taking the Commonwealth to the High Court today, challenging laws that allow the federal government to declare an organisation a “prohibited hate group”.

Once a group is listed, knowingly remaining a member can carry up to seven years in prison, while recruiting or directing its activities can carry even heavier sentences.

The case raises a much bigger question than one political party: how much power should any government have to decide which political organisations Australians are legally allowed to belong to?

The government says the laws are restricted to groups involved in or advocating hate crimes. The party argues the power goes too far and breaches constitutional protections for political communication.

🚨 LABOR MOVES TO EXPAND ESAFETY COMMISSIONER’S POWERS

Labor’s new Digital Duty of Care would put the eSafety Commissioner in charge of enforcing new online harm rules, including content promoting “hostile ideas about women and gender equality” to under-18s.

The Communications Minister would also be able to add new categories of harmful content through government rules, although Parliament could later disallow them. Platforms that fail to comply could face fines of up to $109.2 million.

🚨 THREE ACCOUNTANTS CHARGED OVER ALLEGED $46M SYDNEY LOAN FRAUD RING

NSW Police allege three accountants helped facilitate more than $46 million in fraudulent loans, using false documents as part of a syndicate linked to stolen identities and luxury “ghost cars” that never existed.

33 people have now been charged under Strike Force Myddleton, while the NSW Crime Commission has restrained $95 million in assets.

🚨 SENATE PASSES BILL EXPANDING ESAFETY COMMISSIONER’S POWERS

The Senate has voted 31 to 20 to expand the eSafety Commissioner’s enforcement powers for Australia’s under-16 social media ban.

People relevant to an investigation could be summoned to private examinations, questioned under oath and compelled to produce documents or answer questions. Refusing to comply without a reasonable excuse can carry up to 12 months in prison.

Labor, the Greens, David Pocock and Jacqui Lambie backed the bill. Liberals, Nationals, One Nation, Jacinta Price and Fatima Payman opposed it.

⚠️ ASIO DISRUPTED 16 TERROR THREATS IN JUST NINE MONTHS

ASIO chief Mike Burgess says authorities have disrupted 16 serious terrorist threats since the Bondi terror attack, including an antisemitic attack, a plot to kill Muslims, a violent racist allegedly found with weapons and someone allegedly considering bombing a school.

Burgess said the threats were considered serious, although not necessarily imminent, warning Australia faces an increasingly complex terrorism environment.

🚨 WOMAN JAILED 7½ YEARS OVER $2.2M NDIS FRAUD

Ebtesam Fahmy, 57, who lives in Sydney, has been sentenced to 7½ years in prison after more than 1,000 false NDIS claims worth around $2.2 million.

Court reporting says Fahmy appeared in a hijab and used an Arabic interpreter during proceedings.

She will serve at least four years before parole eligibility, in what has been reported as the toughest NDIS fraud sentence to date.

🚨 ALBANESE’S LOCAL GOLF CLUB GIVEN $6M IN TAXPAYER FUNDING

Marrickville Golf Club, in Anthony Albanese’s electorate, was awarded $6.05 million through Labor’s invitation-only infrastructure grants program. Albanese also held an honorary membership of the club that was not listed on his register of interests.

The club was reportedly the only golf club invited to apply, while almost three-quarters of the $560 million program went to Labor-held electorates and 45 electorates received nothing.

⚠️ AUSTRALIAN BOND YIELDS SURGE TO 15-YEAR HIGH

Australia’s 10-year government bond yield has surged above 5.3%, its highest level since May 2011.

Wall Street strategists have previously described around 5% on the US 10-year as the point where markets can “start to break”. The US yield is now also hovering just below that level.

Higher yields flow through to mortgages, business borrowing and asset prices as investors demand greater returns to lend money.

👀 MELBOURNE BOOKSTORE OPENLY REFUSES TO STOCK WHITE AUTHORS

@Auspill has visited Amplify Bookstore in West Melbourne, a self-described “anti-racist” bookstore that openly refuses to stock books written by white authors.

Despite its race-based stocking policy, Amplify received $11,250 in funding from the City of Melbourne in 2024-25.

🚨 SIXTH MELBOURNE MAN CHARGED IN ISIS PROPAGANDA NETWORK

A 30-year-old Roxburgh Park man has been arrested at Melbourne Airport while departing on a flight bound for the Middle East, becoming the sixth man charged in an AFP investigation into an alleged ISIS propaganda network.

Police allege devices seized from his home contained ISIS-inspired violent extremist material and that he was part of a group chat with the other accused men. He also allegedly refused a court order to unlock his electronic devices, an offence carrying up to 10 years in prison.

The AFP says the alleged network shared graphic extremist material including beheadings, shootings and bombings.

🚨 ONE NATION UNVEILS PLAN TO CUT 750,000 TEMPORARY MIGRANTS

Pauline Hanson has unveiled a three-year immigration “reset” that would cut more than 750,000 temporary migrants and unlawful non-citizens, mainly targeting international students, graduate visas, skilled-worker dependants and bridging visas.

Under the plan, Australia would temporarily move to net-negative migration, before net overseas migration is capped at 130,000 a year. People living in Australia unlawfully would be given three months to leave voluntarily or face enforcement and a potential lifetime re-entry ban.

🚨 POLICE RENEW APPEAL OVER UNSOLVED MURDERS OF THREE CHILDREN

NSW Homicide Squad detectives have renewed their appeal for information into the murders of Colleen Walker-Craig, 16, Evelyn Greenup, 4, and Clinton Speedy-Duroux, 16, who disappeared from Bowraville within five months in 1990 and 1991.

Colleen’s body has never been found, while Evelyn and Clinton’s remains were discovered in bushland. Separate $1 million rewards remain in place for information that helps solve each murder.
