Fadi Haddara, 48, the alleged head of Melbourne’s Haddara crime family, has been shot while sitting in a car in the driveway of his Altona North home. He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Haddara has long been linked to Victoria’s illicit tobacco trade and is a rival of jailed underworld figure Kazem Hamad and his 313 network. Police believe the shooting was targeted and the gunman remains at large.

Pauline Hanson has unveiled a plan to cut Australia’s tobacco excise by 75% and freeze further increases for three years, bringing the price of a legal $46.50 pack of cigarettes down to roughly $21–$22.
Hanson argues Australia’s extreme tobacco taxes have handed the market to organised crime, with illicit cigarettes now selling for as little as $12–$25. ABS estimates show illicit sources supplied 80% of nicotine consumed in Australia in 2025, despite years of tax increases intended to reduce smoking.
The plan would be paired with tougher border enforcement, faster shutdowns of illegal tobacco stores and stronger asset seizures targeting criminal networks.
