43-year-old Albert Harmouche was grabbed at gunpoint outside a house in Bass Hill, south-west Sydney, on Tuesday night. The men demanded up to $10 million and sent videos of him with a gun to his head to family and friends.
He was released this morning after a substantial ransom was paid and is now recovering in hospital. Police are still investigating the motive but he has known links to the Hamze crime family. No arrests yet.

Labor has announced major property tax changes in the 2026 federal budget, handed down on May 12.
Negative gearing for new investors will be limited to new builds from July 1, 2027, while existing investment properties bought before budget night will be grandfathered.
The 50% capital gains tax discount will also be replaced with an inflation-linked system and a new minimum 30% tax on gains from July 1, 2027.
