Ironically the only groups proposing a real solution to Australiaโs repeated Islamic terror attacks are the very ones scapegoated right after the deadliest one yet.
Gun control, speech control and whatever else currently proposed by this government in the wake of this recent attack wonโt work. They were all tried 11 years ago after the Lindt Cafรฉ siege (that took place just 15 minutes from Bondi), and clearly failed. Yet here we are again, the government doubling down on the same approaches, convinced theyโll work this time.
But across the pond and history, a different more decisive path works. In response to the killing of two national guardsmen, trump immediately called for the review of 100,000s of visas and called for the banning of immigration from third world countries, a response that mirrors what once worked in Australia.
Australiaโs first terror attack was the 1915 Battle of Broken Hill, when two Afghan cameleers, answering the Ottoman Sultanโs jihad call, opened fire on a picnic train of White Australians. For the next ~60 years under the Immigration Restriction Act (White Australia Policy), no terror attacks occurred. This terror free era ended as the White Australia Policy did, when in 1972 Croatian separatists bombed a Yugoslavian office.
Offering up the full fledged White Australia Policy in retort to gun control measures may seem odd, but the underlying principle remains sound: target the source of the threat. Guns were restricted before; it didnโt prevent a worse attack 11 years later. What Australia needs now is decisiveness, like what Trump has learnt, not reflexive blame on the right wing, who are the only ones offering this historically and globally backed approach.

๐ฆ๐บ๐ฎ๐ณโก- The family of the father and son Bondi Beach shooters in Hyderabad, India, says they are "shocked," and claim to have cut ties with the Akram duo "years ago."
The brother of Sajid Akram, the father, says Sajid had left India 25 years ago for Australia on a student visa, and "married a Christian" while there.
