I came out to my parents and it didn't go so good.

So I've known that I am asexual since I was 13, I'm now 19 but I've never told anyone except for a close friend.
I've been wanting to tell my parents for a while and so I planned it and I told them this morning. It went awful, my dad said something about how "Asexuality, sounds made up to me." and my mom agreed and added "are you sure you're just not queer? we thought you were."

When I said no, this is what I am they said "Well that sounds nice, but I'm sure you'll grow out of it when you meet the right person." I said I won't and they said "whatever" and gave an eyeroll.

Bruh that was like a punch to the gut.

Something that i want to say.

I've made some posts here and i want to say something,

I think Asexuals, to my experience, are generally very open minded and welcoming which has been a great thing so far.

I've had some bad encounters that i think many of them comes down to misunderstandings, but except those few examples, Asexuals are generally very tolerant people and it's a pleasure to be in this sub and see you guys and gals.

Keep up with the tolerance which is very valuable nowadays.

Again thank you all the open minded and tolerant users of this sub.

Sex favorable aces are real and valid.

This sub is starting to feel sex negative, not in a "it's just not for me" thing but in a "sex is DIRTY and EVIL!" way. I'm not into sex, I don't like it, but even I'm starting to get that feeling from here, I'm seeing more posts from people asking if they're "still ace" if they like fetishes or porn and all that, and I'm worried that maybe the sex favorable/positive aces are going to start feeling less valid or even excluded in their own community when we already face discrimination from straight people and a few corners of the LGBT community at large.

I think it's easy to forget that not all aces are sex repulsed, and that it might be a good time to check up on the favorable ace friends and how they're doing.

In the uk asexuality isn’t a protected characteristic under the uk ‘equality’ act this petition is trying to change that link in comments

Is it uncommon for males to be asexual?

Browsing this subreddit it seems most people on here are female. Is it uncommon for males to be asexual? Or is it harder for them to open up about it? I'm a male in my twenties and I recently figured out I'm asexual. The signs have always been there, in fact the first time I had sex I could not get aroused at all so I don't even know if it counted. I found the girl aesthetically attractive but when it came down to having sex I just could not get turned on. I thought at the time it was because I was drunk and that's how I've always understood it but as it turns out I was asexual, I just didn't realize it back then.
