🌽 December WASDE pushes CBOT corn higher, with cut to Ukrainian supply and increase of U.S. exports – ASAP Agri
🇺🇦✂️ The December WASDE report surprised the market with a sharp downgrade to Ukraine’s 2025/26 corn crop, which was cut by 3 MMT to 29 MMT — well below expectations from local analysts. USDA attributed the reduction to lower area and yield, based on official government data to date, noting that harvest progress has been slow due to wet conditions in key producing regions.
By contrast, russia’s production estimate was raised by 0.4 MMT to 14.5 MMT. No changes were made for other major global exporters, while the EU crop was increased by 1 MMT to 56.8 MMT.
🌎 In total, global 2025/26 production was lowered by 3.3 MMT to 1.283 BMT.

Ukrainian corn offers are falling — and traders see Egypt waking up.
“Offers for handysize parcels of Ukrainian corn slipped to 219–220 USD/MT FOB POC at the start of this week,” says Daria Marchenko, commodity broker at Atria Brokers.
“Offers to Egypt are now around 243 USD/MT CIF, which makes Ukrainian origin attractive again. Recently, we’ve even seen deals concluded at 240–242 USD/MT CIF Egypt for December shipment.
For comparison, Brazilian Panamax parcels are offered at about 257 USD/MT CIF Egypt for January. In this environment, Ukraine is well-positioned to capture long-awaited Egyptian demand.”

🛳Freight from Ukraine: Coaster segment holds steady, while Handysize under bearish sentiment — ASAP Agri
Trading activity remains limited, and despite concerns amid recent attacks on tankers in the Black Sea region, freight for Ukrainian grain shipments remain stable and, in some cases, is lowering. Despite talk of higher insurance premiums for vessels operating in the Black Sea, dry bulk owners working on routes from Ukraine pay the same levels as before.
↔️ The Coaster market remains stable: owners are holding firm as charterers struggle to secure tonnage for spot dates.
⬇️ The Handysize segment is under bearish trend: owners accept levels close to charterers’ ideas for 2H-late Dec laycans. Freight for corn shipment to ECI holds steady, while other routs face decline.
↔️ The Panamax segment looks steady, with modest activity for shipments from Ukraine.

⚠️Ukraine Heads Toward Largest Grain Carry-Over in Years — ASAP Agri
The 2025/26 export season is slipping behind schedule.
Delayed harvests, strained logistics, and constant russian attacks on rail, port, and energy infrastructure are knocking out the window when Ukraine normally ships its biggest grain volumes.
🌾 Ukrainian wheat exports are already 1.5 MMT below the seasonal norm.
🌽 Corn could finish the season with 3 MMT in carry-over under the base scenario — and even more under a pessimistic one.

🚨After the latest russian attacks on Odesa, parts of the POC port cluster are completely without power, while others operate only on limited generator capacity.
📉 Market sources also report new rail restrictions, limiting wagon inflows into POC ports.
🚂 With alerts stopping work repeatedly, ports have shifted to slow, sequential loading — one vessel at a time. Throughput is falling just when Ukraine should be moving peak export volumes.
💰 As logistics tighten, CPT prices may firm, but FOB gains may be limited: Ukrainian grain faces strong global competition, and buyers may resist higher values.
📦 Weak demand + disrupted logistics = depressed exports, reinforcing ASAP Agri’s forecast of higher 2025/26 carry-over grain stocks.

🛳 Freight from Ukraine: Handysize and Coaster rates remain predominantly stable with minor corrections — ASAP Agri
↔️ Despite concerns in the Black Sea following an attack on a civilian vessel, freight rates for Ukrainian grain shipments have remained largely unchanged. Many coaster owners are currently in spot positions, as cargo availability on the market remains limited, leaving little room for owners to push rates higher.
↔️ In the Handysize segment, freight levels also remain mostly stable. It is worth noting, however, that charterers are increasingly facing a shortage of open tonnage for spot dates to cover December cargoes, particularly on European routes.
