كلمة "العلم" ليست محصورة بمعرفة بيتهوفن أو دوستويفسكي أو تأملك السطحي للوحاتِ عصر النهضة. العالم -أو المثقّف- يعرفُ جيداً أن العلم ليس مجرد تكديساً للأسماء والمعلومات بل هي وعيٌ بالحقيقة، وقدرةٌ على التفكّر، وسعيٌ لفهم الحياة، فقرائتُك لكُتبٍ مشهورةٍ فقط لتُسمّى "مُثقّفاً" لن تعوّضَك عن التجربةِ والفهم. المثقّف هو الذي لا يُقدّس الأفكار لمجردِ أنها مشهورة، ولا يرفضها لمجردِ أنها غريبة، بل يزنها بميزان االعقلِ والحقِّ.
