1. We are our memories..?
• Our experiences shape who we are. Our memories influence our personalities, convictions, and decisions.
• We lose our sense of self—our previous connections, life lessons, and the path that shaped who we are—when we shed our memories.
• Amnesia patients frequently find it difficult to connect with their former self. Are you still the same person if you lose all memory of your life?
• So, since identity is defined by memories, does this imply that infants or those who have no remembrance of their early years lack identity?

2. We are what we do..?
• Even when memories fade, behaviours, routines, and instincts endure.
• Given that a pianist who suffers from memory loss may not recall learning to play the piano, their fingers may still be able to play (related to procedural memory). Following a brain illness, British musician Clive Wearing experienced serious amnesia. He was unable to create new memories or recall most things, yet he was still a very talented pianist. He was able to continue playing music even if he did not recall learning it since his episodic memory loss did not influence his procedural memory.
• Nevertheless, does an action still have meaning if we can't recall why we did it? Are you still a doctor if you've spent your entire life training to be one but have forgotten everything?

3. We are our feelings..?
• Emotions persist even in the absence of memory.
• Even if a person with Alzheimer's disease is unable to recall the names of their loved ones, they can still find solace and affection in their company.
• Often, more profound than particular memories, fear, excitement, and sadness influence our responses to the outside environment.
• However, do our feelings still characterize us if we lose the context in which they occur? Does it still mean the same thing if you love someone but can't recall why?

4. Identity is fluid, not fixed
• We are always changing as individuals. Have you changed over the past five years? A decade ago? Most likely not.
• Isn't a person simply evolving into a new version of themselves if they lose their memories but carry on living, experiencing new things, and establishing new connections?
• After significant life events, we frequently reinvent who we are; memory loss may be an extreme form of that.
• However, since identity is ever-changing, is there a real "core" to who we are? Or do we simply exist as a collection of transient selves?

5. On technology
• Would identity restoration be possible if our memories could be backed up and recovered on a computer like files?
• Would your awareness be a copy, or would it still be you if you transferred it to a computer system?
• Is identity something we can control at will if memories are merely data that can be deleted, altered, or transferred?
• However, what does it imply about free will if identity may be rewritten? Are you still you if someone else alters your memories?
