You purchased 4 hardback and 2 paperback books for 36$. The price of each hardback book was two-one-half times that of each paperback. How many dollars did each book cost?
I how two systems to solve the problem.
$36=4h+2p
h= 2 and 1/2p h= price of hardback
p= price of paperback

🏆 subsitute 2 and 1/2p in the top equation. you get 36=4(2 and a half p)=2p then you get 36 = 10p+2p then you get 36 = 12p then you get that p = 3 dollars. Then you subsitute that into the second equation so you get h = 2 and a half(3) and you get 7.50 dollars for hardback.

h=7.50

Math problem - how to set up? I was helping my little brother with his math homework, when we got to one that I had forgotten how to do. I don't have the exact question, my dad's looking at it, but here's the basic idea.
At a circus, a ticket booth sells both adult and child tickets. The children's tickets cost five dollars while the adult tickets cost eight dollars. The sold 1000 tickets, and recieved $2500 dollars. How many of each type of tickets did they sell?

c + a = 1000
5c + 8a = 2500

c = 1000 - a
5* (1000 - a) + 8a = 2500

University entry grades?!? ok, so i finished college last year and i got CCC, now i want to apply to westminster university to do english literature, but the course requirement grades are BCC.
if i write a really good personal statement, do you think that the one grade difference will matter?
