Math problem - how to set up? I was helping my little brother with his math homework, when we got to one that I had forgotten how to do. I don't have the exact question, my dad's looking at it, but here's the basic idea.
At a circus, a ticket booth sells both adult and child tickets. The children's tickets cost five dollars while the adult tickets cost eight dollars. The sold 1000 tickets, and recieved $2500 dollars. How many of each type of tickets did they sell?

🏆 Two variables, c = number of children's tickets sold. a = number of adult's tickets sold.
c + a = 1000
5c + 8a = 2500
Solve for one, and plug it into the other:
c = 1000 - a
5* (1000 - a) + 8a = 2500
Although the number's don't work here. (1000 tickets and 2500 dollars is an average of 2.5 dollars per ticket).
