At some point in our lives, we may realize that the best way to take care of ourselves is to change the depth of certain relationships or end them altogether. This can apply to both love and work, friendship or family relationships.
It's true, making changes, setting boundaries in a relationship, or ending it will never be something simple. But there comes a time when we realize that these changes are necessary - it won't work the same way anymore.

8 TOP TIPS FOR TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVENπ§
π£ 1) The answers appear in the same order in the text as the order of the statements.
π£ 2) You donβt need to read the whole text. First, you will scan for keywords and then youβll read in detail the section in which they're located for the answer.
π£ 3) There will be at least one of each answer type β True, False, Not Given. So, if you donβt have at least one of each when youβve completed the question, youβve made a mistake.
π£ 4) Watch out for distractors. Be aware that the test setters love to use βdistractorsβ to really test you. A prime example is qualifying words such as:
These single words can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
E.g. Tiantian often meets up with her friends after work.
Tiantian occasionally meets up with her friends after work.
In T/F/NG questions, the meaning of the statement must be an exact match with the information in the text to be FALSE.

π£ 5) Also be on the lookout for qualifying words that express possibility or doubt such as:
Again, they can totally alter the meaning of a statement.
E.g. Scientists now claim that several different species of humans evolved on the earth.
Scientists now know that several different species of humans evolved on the earth.
π£ 6) The statements wonβt be a word-for-word match to the information in the text. They will contain synonyms and paraphrasing. Itβs the meaning that you are trying to match.
π£ 7) The test is not an assessment of your knowledge of the topic but only of your ability to read and understand the specific information in the text. So, if you happen to know from your own knowledge that a particular statement is correct, i.e. TRUE, but this is not stated in the text, your answer must be NOT GIVEN.
π£ 8) Remember that at least one answer will be NG. This means that you will be searching for information that is not there.
seem claim
suggest possibly
believe probably

THE STRATEGY FOR TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVENβ
1οΈβ£ Read the instructions carefully. Double-check whether it is a TRUE/FALSE/NOT GIVEN or a YES/NO/NOT GIVEN question.
2οΈβ£ Read the statements and try to understand the meaning of each. Do this before reading the text.
3οΈβ£ Think about possible synonyms that might appear in the text and note any qualifying words in the statements such as, all, some, always, often. This will make your brain alerts for them when you scan the text.
4οΈβ£ Underline keywords. You wonβt necessarily find the exact words in the text due to the extensive use of synonyms and paraphrasing in T/F/NG questions but enough will be present to make doing this worthwhile.
5οΈβ£ Re-read statement 1 and scan the first paragraph, maybe two, for the keywords or synonyms of them. Scanning will locate where the answer is but detailed reading of this section of the text is now needed to decide if the specific information youβre looking for is TRUE, FALSE or NOT GIVEN.
6οΈβ£ Make your decision. Remember to consider these three things:
To be TRUE, the information must exactly match even if the words are different.
Look carefully for qualifying words that might change the meaning.
If you are struggling to find the answer itβs probably because it isnβt there, i.e. itβs NOT GIVEN.
7οΈβ£ Repeat this process for the remaining questions.
To be TRUE, the information must exactly match even if the words are different.
Look carefully for qualifying words that might change the meaning.
If you are struggling to find the answer itβs probably because it isnβt there, i.e. itβs NOT GIVEN.

KEY TIPS FOR MULTIPLCE CHOICEβοΈ
β¨ Read the questions first.
If you do this, youβll know what youβre looking for when you read the text which will save you loads of time.
β¨ The answers will be in order.
Itβs very helpful to know that the answers come in order in the text which isnβt the case with all question types. This makes it easier to find them. So, if youβve found answer 1 in paragraph 1 and answer 2 in paragraph 3, youβll know that answer 3 wonβt be too much further on in the text.
β¨ Read in detail.
For some question types, youβll be mostly skimming and scanning the text for the answers. Youβll need these skills here too but with multiple choice questions, the detail is important.
β¨ Watch out for distractors.
Be aware that the test setters love to include βdistractorsβ in the answer options to try and catch you out. A prime example is qualifying words such as every, all, most, a few. They are only small words but they can completely change the meaning of a sentence.
E.g. Everyone who ate the prawn sandwiches at the party was ill.
Most people who ate the prawn sandwiches at the party were ill.
β¨ Donβt leave any blank answers.
If you really canβt decide which answer is right, then guess. Thereβs at least a chance that youβll guess correctly and get the mark. If you donβt put an answer, the question will be marked βwrongβ by the examiner.
