The 80s were a time when the sense of community was strong, and when the future looked bright.

Back then, Canada was a high-trust society. Neighbors looked out for one another, political debates were fierce but respectful, and there was a shared belief that we were all working toward a better tomorrow. It was a time when shaking someone’s hand meant something, and promises were kept.

But as time marched on, things got more complicated. Trust eroded, politics became more divisive, and the world seemed a bit more uncertain. The 80s remind us of what we’ve lost: that sense of unity, the belief that we could make a difference, and the unshakable confidence that the future was ours to shape.

It was about believing in something bigger than ourselves, about trust, and about a future that we could all build together. And that’s a spirit worth bringing back.
