In Kyoto, Japan, there are five temples with ceilings stained by blood. These ceilings were made using the floorboards from Fushimi Castle, where in 1600, Torii Mototada and 380 of his samurai made a heroic last stand. After resisting an army of 40,000 for 11 days, they chose to take their own lives rather than surrender.
