At the thinnest point, the roof is only 3 centimeters thick! The construction would have been inconceivable without state-of-the-art computation and fabrication techniques. Cesare Casati visits Brasilia after 8 years from its construction and writes about it on Domus, poised between observation and myth of modernity.
Message: "There is an immediate impression of different dimension of space and time. The three hour flight (from Sao Paulo, a metropolis like many others) becomes a distance of 30 years." Originally published in Domus 434/January 1966

“The Three Gorges migration monument” never completed and torn down in 2009, built ostensibly as a monument to the more than one million people displaced by the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. Its design is based around the character 華 which has a variety of meanings, including an antiquated way to say China.
The monument was also portrayed in the Chinese movie Still Life 三峡好人, that witnesses the social changes happening with the building of the dam in 2006.
