Apple is rolling out iOS 27.0.1 update, which fixes the notorious unexpected restart bug in the newly released iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The update also includes fixes for certain camera issues.

Here's what's in the changelog.

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max may unexpectedly restart when Face ID fails to authenticate

A color artifact may appear on photos captured at 2x under certain lighting conditions at f/1.48 on a small number of iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max devices
With today’s iOS 27.0.1 rollout, Apple officially admits that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max had a Face ID authentication issue.

After the September 18 launch, iPhone 18 Pro users began reporting unexpected restarts. This problem was widely reported during Face ID authentication. Some contacted Apple and returned the device, while others kept waiting for a fix.

This new update fixes unexpected restarts caused by Face ID authentication failure. However, specific details of this failure are unknown. What’s interesting is that Apple hasn’t published the CVE details for this update either, keeping the fixes unknown.
Apple has officially announced Apple Pay in India, allowing users to make online payments in stores, apps, and on the web with their iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch.

Currently, Apple Pay supports Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Users can add these cards to their Apple Pay wallet and use them online and at NFC terminals.

Specifically, Apple Pay can be used at Apple Stores, Blinkit, Chaayos, Comet, Croma, Interflora, Ixigo, Le15 Patisserie, Reliance brands, Tata 1mg, Zomato, and more.

This has been made possible by Apple’s partnership with payment service providers (PSPs) including Cashfree, JusPay, Mswipe, Paytm, PayU, Pine Labs, Razorpay, Worldline, and more. This list will expand with even more merchants and apps in the near future.

Apple Pay prioritizes security and privacy. This service doesn’t store card numbers on the device or on Apple’s servers. This is a key reason behind the standoff between Apple and the Indian government over the past decade.

A new leak has revealed the solder-ball map for Apple’s A20 chip, which will feature in the upcoming standard iPhone 18 with new technology.

Last month, Apple revealed the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone Duo with the A20 Pro chip, using TSMC’s 2nm node. The chip uses WMCM packaging that places the processor beside the memory chip, replicating the M-series.

Compared to Package on Package (PoP), the WMCM creates a direct pathway from the A20 Pro to the large vapor chamber. It dissipates more heat, enabling sustained performance.

Further performance upgrades include a 7-core GPU for faster graphics rendering and two Neural Engines, combining 32 cores for local computing.

Weibo tipster says the A20 will also use TSMC’s 2nm chip. They revealed that the A20 Pro’s bare die area is 98.00 mm²., and the A20 is around 70 - 80 mm².

Unfortunately, the A20 may stick to PoP packaging, similar to the A19 chip. This means less heat dissipation. The solder area map shows the chip is still using 5 GPU cores, and its GPU

Apple is set to release a significantly lighter MacBook Pro OLED later this year, says Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in the latest Power On Newsletter

Gurman said this year’s MacBook Pro will adopt better visual quality thanks to the OLED panel. It will also be the first MacBook with touchscreen support.

However, one of the most significant upgrades in this device would be the lighter design. MacBook Pro has a bulky design due to its high-end specs and larger displays.
Apple is bringing the next-gen iPad Mini tablet with an OLED display, and a new report has confirmed 3 major upgrades.

Mark Gurman revealed that the iPad Mini will have the best display that lineup has offered so far. The organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display has self-illuminated pixels that turn completely off to produce true blacks and infinite contrast, producing higher picture quality than LCD panels.

OLEDs also have faster response rates, reducing motion blur and improving the viewing experience. OLED doesn’t require a backlight layer, reducing thickness and weight for portability.
Apple will bring a new Focus controls UI to the iPhone Duo for a unique user experience, a leaker pdfu reveals. An X post confirms that Focus on the iPhone Duo will show a button on top of the lock screen controls that remains active even after you disable Focus. It will be there until the user unlocks the iPhone https://www.aplwire.com/2026/10/04/iphone-duo-will-come-with-redesigned-focus-controls/
The iPhone 18 Pro series continues to set sales records in China, surpassing 1.76 million units and indicating strong initial demand.

A Weibo tipster revealed that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max have achieved a cumulative weekly sales volume of 1.76 million units by Week 39 of this year.

Week 39 ranged from September 21 to September 27, and the iPhone 18 Pro went on sale on September 18, starting at 9,999 yuan in China. The tipster predicted the lineup would cross over 2.5 million units during Week 40. Each model is expected to accumulate at least 1 million unit activations.
The iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max have a smaller Dynamic Island that supports up to 3 Live Activities simultaneously, but some users still wonder how it works.

Live Activities are real-time updates that appear in the Dynamic Island, and some of these are interactive. On iPhone 17 Pro and earlier models, you can open only two Live Activities at once.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro is increasing the supported count: “The upgraded Dynamic Island can now show three Live Activities at once”. There was no catch until leaker pdfu revealed the mystery to a user. https://www.aplwire.com/2026/10/05/heres-the-truth-about-running-3-live-activities-on-the-iphone-18-pro/
The iPhone Duo production situation is raising concerns about initial supply and orders before the global launch. This situation arose after reports of low yields, citing a complicated form factor and assembly.

It’s reported that Foxconn, Apple’s key supplier, has achieved only 60% yield for the iPhone Duo. However, the supplier gave the iPhone maker a choice between yield and production rate, and Apple may have chosen the first.

Choosing yield comes at the cost of slow production and delayed supplies due to limited output. On top of that, the supplier needs some time to adjust the production process and equipment accordingly.
