Ice Memory ice coring campaign on the Corbassière glacier on Grand Combin. At seven metres below the surface, the drilling team smelt that something was burning. Worried that the motor was overheating they pulled up the sample carefully and found there was plastic in the ice.

Ancient ocean sediments link changes in currents to cooling of Northern Hemisphere 3.6 million years ago

Important contribution from Dr Katharina Hochmuth @IMASUTAS (physical parameters of sediments), part of the international research team working on this @NatureComms paper ⬇️

Scientists from @TCD_NatSci have linked changes in deep sea sediments to a period of cooling in the Northern Hemisphere 3.6 million years ago, implying profound changes in the circulation of currents occurred at this time.
