“We battled the algorithm and won” #Meta and #Twitter have been accused of censoring Palestinian voices alexskopje/Newscom
Social media juggernaut Meta Platforms lists “Give People a Voice” as one of the principles on its website.

“People deserve to be heard and have a voice – even when that means defending the right of people we disagree with.”

It seems that Meta employees should have added “fiction writing” to their job description, however. A number of damning recent articles exposing patently unjust experiences of censorship have revealed the company to be more concerned with silencing voices – particularly Palestinian ones.

On 22 September, the Washington Post published a bombshell report on the conclusion of an outside audit by the consultancy Business for Social Responsibility (BSR). https://electronicintifada.net/content/we-battled-algorithm-and-won/36371

Washington will operate “undaunted and unafraid” throughout Asia, including the Taiwan Strait, US Vice President Kamala Harris said Wednesday as she addressed American troops in Japan.

Speaking after attending Tuesday’s funeral for assassinated former Japanese leader Shinzo Abe, Harris accused China of “disturbing behaviour” in the East China Sea and South China Sea and “provocations across the Taiwan Strait.” https://www.thedefensepost.com/2022/09/28/us-operate-undaunted-taiwan-strait/
Eleven soldiers have been found dead and about 50 civilians are missing after an attack by Islamist militants on a 150-vehicle convoy taking supplies to a town in northern #BurkinaFaso on Monday, the government said on Tuesday.

Twenty-eight people were wounded in the attack, including 20 soldiers, said the statement by government spokesman Lionel Bilgo. The army had said in a previous statement that dozens of trucks were destroyed.

The assault took place in the commune of Gaskinde in Soum province, where jihadists linked to al Qaeda and Islamic State have escalated attacks and seized territory since 2015.

Militants have blockaded several areas, so government convoys and air drops have delivered essential goods to trapped civilians.

The convoy, which was under military escort, was carrying supplies to the town of Djibo, just over 20 km (12 miles) away from Gaskinde.

Maduro: Fore their "Russophobic obsession" #EU and #USA. prefer the economic crisis and inflation then negotiating with Russia

Brussels and Washington "have opted for political and economic suicide" in their attempt to "harm" Moscow, the Venezuelan president commented.

The European Union and the United States, due to their "Russophobic obsession" prefer the economic crisis and high levels of inflation then negotiating with Russia, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro criticized Tuesday in statements quoted by Venezolana de Televisión.

Brussels and Washington "have chosen political suicide by wanting to kill" Moscow, "they have committed economic suicide in their societies and economies to harm Russia," the president said during an event in the Venezuelan state of La Guaira.

"It's a Russophobic obsession, they prefer energy crisis, blackouts, economic crises, unleashed inflation to wanting to negotiate peace with Moscow, to give Russia assurances so that we can all reach peace and harmony agreements," he added.

Recession in EU and US

The Venezuelan president recalled that in the European Union and in the USA, some of their authorities have already recognized that their economies are in recession. In this sense, Maduro ordered the vice president, Delcy Rodríguez, to study the "announcement" of those countries about the projections of a recession, and the repercussions that they could have in Venezuela and Latin America.

On the other hand, he recalled that Caracas supports the proposal made by Mexico at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly to create an international commission to facilitate dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, in order to put an end to the conflict in Ukrainian territory and the "warlike pretensions of NATO and the US". "You have to reactivate the mechanisms of diplomacy" and "not let the conflict escalate," Maduro commented.

"A peaceful solution doesn't suit the West"

In his recent message to the nation, Russian President Vladimir Putin clarified that in the first rounds of negotiations established between Moscow and kyiv after the start of the Russian special military operation, Ukraine "reacted positively" to the security proposals put forward for your country.

However, "it is obvious that a peaceful solution was not in the West's interest, so after reaching certain compromises, kyiv was ordered to torpedo all agreements [with Moscow]. Ukraine got more weapons, gangs of mercenaries and foreign nationalists, as well as NATO-trained military units," Putin lamented. He also recalled that Western leaders no longer hide their desire to "weaken, divide, and ultimately destroy" Russia.
US to deepen ‘unofficial ties’ with #Taiwan, VP says

Washington anticipates “aggressive behavior” from China but seeks to avoid Cold War with Beijing, US vice president said
The US administration intends to develop its “unofficial” ties with Taiwan despite China’s fierce opposition, Vice President Kamala Harris said on Wednesday. She also blasted Beijing for what she described as “aggressive behavior” in the Asia-Pacific region.

Speaking to American sailors aboard a US warship in Japan, Harris lashed out at China, accusing Beijing of “undermining key elements of international rules-based order.” China “has challenged the freedom of the seas and has flexed its military and economic might to coerce and intimidate its neighbors,” she noted.

Harris, in particular, accused Beijing of staging various “provocations” across the Taiwan Strait, an area where the US often deploys its Navy patrols. The vice president also believes that Beijing used the visit to Taipei of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in early August “as a pretext for an unprecedented show of military force.”

In this vein, Harris signaled that, amid the heightened tensions in the region, the Biden administration expects “continued aggressive behavior from Beijing” in what she described as a unilateral Chinese effort to “undermine the status quo.”
Harris pledged that the US would continue to “support Taiwan’s self-defense” and “deepen our unofficial ties” with the self-governed island, stressing, however, that Washington does not seek a Cold War with China.

Her comments come after Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi warned last week that such a conflict would be a “disaster” for both countries and for the whole world, adding that Washington’s perception of Beijing as its most prominent rival in the long-term is totally unwarranted.

The regional tensions have been running high since US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi traveled to Taiwan in a show of support. Beijing, however, views a visit by Washington’s second-in-line for presidential succession as a violation of the ‘One China’ principle by Washington and believes it is detrimental for Sino-US relations.

Beijing considers Taiwan sovereign Chinese territory. Since 1949, the island has been ruled by nationalists, who fled the mainland with US help after losing the Chinese Civil War to the Communists. The US officially recognizes but doesn’t endorse China’s sovereignty over the self-governed island.
Former Guinean president and military ruler Moussa Dadis Camara and 10 other men are set to face trial for a 2009 stadium massacre and mass rape by the country’s security forces.
The 11 men have been indicted for their responsibility in the killing of more than 150 people and the rape of more than 100 women in the capital Conakry, according to a report by a United Nations-mandated international commission.
On September 28, 2009, tens of thousands of pro-democracy demonstrators held a protest in the stadium to pressure Camara not to stand for election as president of Guinea the following year. Camara came to power through a military coup in 2008.
“The tens of thousands of opposition supporters and civil society had no idea of the terror waiting for them that day in 2009,” Al Jazeera’s Ahmed Idris said while reporting from Conakry.
“Survivors speak of horrific massacre with some victims shot at close range. Women and girls trapped by the shootings were beaten and raped by security forces.”
