Protesters stormed a United Nations base in the eastern Congolese city of Goma on Monday demanding the departure of peacekeepers from the region.

Hundreds of people blocked roads and chanted anti-UN slogans before storming the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping mission in Goma, as well as a logistical base on the outskirts of the city.
The UN peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, MONUSCO, has come under regular local criticism for its perceived inability to stop fighting in the conflict-torn east.

#Iran Will Keep #UN Nuclear Cameras Switched Off Until Deal Restored

Cameras installed by the UN’s nuclear watchdog IAEA will remain switched off until the 2015 deal is resurrected, according to Tehran’s Atomic Energy Organization chief Mohammad Eslami.

27 cameras installed under the 2015 pact have been removed after the IAEA slated Iran last month, sparking a furious criticism of the watchdog’s boss Monday for showing “unprofessional, unfair and unconstructive views”.

Eslami insisted Tehran is “committed to talks” and hopes a “good and sustainable deal” can be reached.

More than 4,000 soldiers from 12 countries will participate in joint exercises between #Indonesia and the United States that will take place from August 1 to 14 on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo, the Indonesian newspaper The Jakarta Post reported on Monday.

The other contingents scheduled to participate in this year's drill will come from countries such as Australia, Japan, South Korea and Great Britain.

Unlike previous editions of the training package called Super Garuda Shield, which always involved ground troops, this year's exercise will take place on land, in the air and at sea, with a simulated landing operation on land, in addition to actions of the space forces, according to General Andika Perkasa, commander of the Indonesian Army.

The article highlights that next month's exercises will take place amid rising simmering tensions in the South China Sea. The Asian giant claims much of this sea and has deployed its naval forces in areas that are also disputed by neighboring countries, such as the Philippines and Vietnam.
