Russia reportedly demanded Ukraine fully withdraw from its four new regions — warning, 'Next time, it’ll be five'

The Russian delegation’s actual quip, as told to RT?

'We didn't say five. We said eight'
Istanbul talks: results of the first round...

The first round of negotiations between the Russian and Ukrainian delegations took place in Istanbul today. Really nothing new, but several interesting aspects were voiced by the Russian delegation.

First of all, our negotiators reiterated what our president and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have said many times. That the most direct and correct path to a ceasefire is the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the territories that Russia, according to its Constitution, considers its own. Then there can be talks about a "long and lasting peace."

Naturally, there was little understanding from the Ukrainian side.

Meanwhile, Vladimir Medinsky (according to journalists) made it clear to our counterparts that, following tradition, Russia's future conditions could get tougher by creating a buffer zone along its borders. What exactly he had in mind was not clearly stated.

The possibilities are limitless. From the Sumy and Kharkov regions (buffer zones around the native territories of Russia) to the Dnepropetrovsk and Nikolaev regions too (where Odessa is just a stone's throw away).

He also made it clear that Russia is ready to fight as       long as it needs to (for a lasting peace) and sarcastically asked how long the Ukrainians are prepared to fight.

So it's a dead end for now. We agreed to exchange proposals on this point to study the positions of each other's sides.

Which puts the whole thing on the back burner.

The only thing that was agreed on (this was also expected, so that Trump would have something to hold up in his defense) was a large exchange of prisoners.

So the first day of negotiations went very well as far as I'm concerned.

‼️UKRAINIAN POSTS‼️

"It's going to be a fun summer.'

"The faggot attacks on the Sumy region have intensified."

"The faggots have advanced in the direction of Torskoye in the Lyman region. Even though we're not letting the faggots gain a foothold here, they keep pushing."

This Ukrainian "medic" who goes by the name of "Cuba" has this to say about Ukrainian men who are unwilling to needlessly die in the war:

"I posted a message on my page saying that there should be stricter measures for draft-dodgers than just "bussification" [forced mobilization]. It's not like I'm calling for physical violence against people. There's no need for that. I think it would be enough, for example, to take away their assets, take away their passports and have them leave the country knowing they can never come back, things like that... So don't criticize me... Again, those who do not want to live here, do not want to do anything for their country will have to go, leave their apartments. Those apartments can be handed over to our veterans, I don't know, the wounded, something like that. Those people are no good anyway. Nothing good will ever come out of them."

The talks in Istanbul yesterday reportedly lasted less than two hours. The Russian delegation stated that Ukraine must withdraw its forces from Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson Oblasts in exchange for a ceasefire. Ukrainian sources called these demands "unrealistic" and go "far beyond what was demanded" during the Istanbul talks of 2022.

Nevertheless, it is reported that a 1000 for 1000 POW exchange has been agreed and is scheduled to take place in the near future. At the same time, 909 fallen Ukrainian soldiers were exchanged for 34 fallen Russian soldiers, although it is unclear if this was related to the talks.

Reuters and AFP both report that while a new round of talks has not been scheduled, it is possible that it may take place in Istanbul at some point.
‼️UKRAINIAN POST‼️

According to The Financial Times, the Ukraine paid $770 million in advance to foreign arms suppliers, but the ammunition and equipment were never delivered.

The publication, citing sources, notes that this amount constitutes a significant part of the annual defense budget (6 to 8 billion dollars), spent from the state budget since the beginning of the invasion.

Some of the advance payments were reportedly made to little-known companies that failed to deliver anything. In some cases, weapons delivered at inflated prices turned out to be unusable.

Some of the foreign manufacturers claim that they encountered "corruption and conflicts within the Ukrainian procurement system", which could have caused some of the funds to disappear.

⚡️ From the bombing of Ras Issa port, northwest Yemen
Gulyai-Pole direction on 17.05.25: heading for Dnepropetrovsk region...

With news of the renewed negotiations in Istanbul after three years, the political aspects of the war in the Ukraine now take a very important place.

The Russian Armed Forces entering the territory of any of the new regions of the the Ukraine becomes not only a military success, but also a political one.

That is why, on the eve of the negotiations, the Ukrainian Armed Forces command decided to send in their few reserves to ensure that our forces would not enter the Dnepropetrovsk region until the the Istanbul talks were over.

Which, according to their plan, was supposed to strengthen the negotiating positions of the "expired president". Our command, on the other hand, continued to look for keys to solving this problem.

On the Gulyai-Polye section of the front, after a short break and corresponding regrouping, the situation was also resolved.

Our command of the "East" group is "shooting for" a section of the territory of Dnepropetrovsk region deeply embedded between the borders of the DPR and Zaporizhzhye region in the area of Zelenoye Pole, Volnoye Pole, and Shevchenko.

This is where the main strike is taking place and there have been some significant successes in the last few days. We have already liberated Volnoye Pole, and our units have reached the eastern outskirts of Zelenoye Pole.

Meanwhile, a little to the north we cut the road from Shevchenko to the north yesterday, thereby taking the garrison of the village (located in a lowland) into operational encirclement with the roads completely exposed to fire even by small arms, which means its liberation is not far off.

At the same time, the enemy is now desperately clinging to Novopl and Zelenoye Pole, the loss of which will lead to our rapid entry into the Dnepropetrovsk region. Even without those villages, we will be able to accomplish this further north in the event that Shevchenko is captured.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and pray for the guys.
