Shin Bet, the Police, and the IDF: Two officers and a civilian to be charged for involvement in smuggling to Gaza in exchange for money
βThe Military Prosecutorβs Office and the Southern District Prosecutorβs Office submitted today (Tuesday) a prosecutorβs declaration ahead of filing an indictment against a civilian and two IDF officers.
In recent weeks, an investigation has been conducted by the Shin Bet, the Central Unit of the Israel Policeβs Northern District, and the Central Unit for Special Investigations of the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division, into the smuggling of goods into the Gaza Strip in humanitarian aid trucks in exchange for receiving hundreds of thousands of shekels.
During the investigation, suspicions arose that a resident of Rahat, Nassar Abu Mustafa, exploited his connections with a reserve-duty officer to explore the feasibility of carrying out smuggling operations into the Gaza Strip.
Subsequently, after the two formulated their plan for how to execute the smuggling, the reserve-duty officer made contact with an active-duty officer in order to bring in goodsβamong them prohibited items including hundreds of thousands of cigarettes and several cell phonesβto contacts inside the Gaza Strip, in exchange for profits amounting to hundreds of thousands of shekels from these actions.
During the investigation, the teams collected evidence against an active-duty IDF officer with the rank of lieutenant colonel and a reserve officer with the rank of major, who allegedly took advantage of their military positions and access to information about humanitarian aid trucks. The trucks in question were stopped due to a malfunction on their way to the Gaza Strip, and the civilian concealed the prohibited goods inside them when he arrived to repair them.β
