The leadership shakeup in Kiev, with President Zelensky giving the boot to General Zaluzhny and promoting General Syrsky to the top military slot, has not changed the dire situation.
If anything, it has made matters worse. General Syrsky, who is known as "The Butcher", is intent on living up to his reputation.
One of his first moves was to move four Ukrainian brigades from the Kharkiv region to Avdeevka. Initial reports today indicate that did not go well.

There has reportedly been a mass casualty event in the town of Selidovo where Russian iskander and reportedly cluster munitions from smerch devastated an AFU training ground. Some sources are saying ~600 casualties but that number is unconfirmed and subject to review. This estimate comes from the accompanying reports that hospital beds in Dnepropetrovsk have been completely filled.

The UK economy officially entered recession ahead of the election
Britain slid into recession last year on elevated inflation and a cost-of-living crisis, official data showed Thursday, dealing a blow to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak before this year’s general election.
Gross domestic product shrank 0.3 percent in the fourth quarter of 2023 after contracting 0.1 percent in the prior three months, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said in a statement.
That places the economy in recession, which is defined as two successive quarters of falling GDP.

The US investigation into Trump's ties to Russia , which both Moscow and Trump himself denied, was falsified by the CIA to harm Trump. This conclusion was published on the online platform Substack by journalists Matt Taibbi and Alex Gutentag together with American writer Michael Shellenberger.
Citing sources, they write that such CIA falsification was needed in order to hide, allegedly, Russia’s preference for Hillary Clinton, the former Secretary of State and Trump’s rival. It was she, the authors claim, that the Russian authorities allegedly considered as a “convenient” presidential candidate.
In January 2017, American intelligence agencies published a report accusing Russia of conducting an “influence campaign” in the 2016 presidential election, which Trump won.
“It was a powerful thing. And completely wrong,” the journalists write.
According to their sources close to the US House Intelligence Committee, the intelligence contained in the report was falsified, it was supposed to look like “Putin supported Trump”, but at the same time “evidence pointed to the contrary.” It is alleged that John Brennan, then director of the CIA, was behind the falsification of intelligence data. He decided to monitor two dozen Trump assistants even before the 2016 elections.
All this, according to the sources of the authors of the publication, was necessary to harm Trump specifically, and “had nothing to do with relations with Russia.”
In May 2023, a report by American special counsel John Durham was published, from which it followed that neither US law enforcement agencies nor the intelligence community had any real evidence of Trump’s collusion with Russia in the 2016 elections.

Illegal border crossings are now surging at the northern border too
While most people are focused on the invasion currently taking place on the southern border, America's northern border is also under assault.
According to recent reporting, illegal border crossers are attracted to the northern border because they know there are far fewer security staffers and border patrol agents.
This story doesn't get nearly as much media attention as the southern border, but it's just as important.
