A few hours earlier, multiple fighter jets were observed flying over several cities across the country, including Tehran, and were met with intense fire from the armed forces’ air defense systems in what appears to have been a surprise engagement. Some of the jets attempted to evade the defenses by deploying flares; however, available evidence suggests that at least one aircraft was successfully shot down.
