The first diagram illustrates how cement is manufactured while the second one shows the production of concrete using this cement.

Overall, there are about six distinct stages involved in the production of cement, starting with crushing ingredients and culminating with putting cement into bags, whereas the manufacturing process of concrete has one stage only. In both processes, a number of raw materials and the use of specialized equipment are required.

Focusing firstly on cement production, limestone and clay are crushed and turned into powder at the first step in the procedure. This substance is then mixed in a mixer before being sent to the rotating heater where heat is applied. Following this, the mixture is ground, and the final product- cement- is produced. Lastly, this ready-to-use building material is placed in bags to ease its utilization.

As for the process of making concrete, we can see that there is one major stage, which is mixing four different materials: cement, sand, water and gravel. Half of concrete is composed of gravel, while sand makes up a quarter of it, and the shares of cement and water are 15 and 10% respectively. By rotating these ingredients in a counter-clockwise direction with the help of a mixer, concrete is produced.

The maps illustrate a part of Dubai called Clock Tower Roundabout in the past and in recent times.

In general, this area of Dubai has changed from a rather unpopulated site to a busy and modern one. Over time, civil engineering of this place has advanced to a great extent. It is also clear that the number of cars on roads has increased dramatically.

Despite significant reforms in many parts of the Clock Tower Roundabout area, a few parts experienced no change. One of them is the Clock Tower itself, located in the center of the roundabout. Besides this, the road infrastructure surrounding the roundabout has remained unaltered.

As for the developments, by far the most noticeable one has been the erection of a high number of skyscrapers across the road leading to the north. Another change has been planting fir trees around the Clock Tower roundabout, but the bushes by the roads have been cleared.

The table illustrates the shares of women in top managerial positions in three different companies from 1975 to 2015.

Overall, the proportions of women in senior management positions in Eldan Ltd and Bamforth Ltd organizations grew markedly over the span, whereas the figures for Finsbury Ltd fluctuated. It is also clear that by far the biggest percentage change was observed in Eldan Ltd within the period. Interestingly, the proportions of women in major managerial roles in Eldan Ltd and Bamforth Ltd saw significant rises after 2000.

Focusing on Eldan Ltd and Bamforth Ltd companies first, the percentage of senior female managers in the former rose from a mere 3% in 1975 to a hefty 64% in 2015, though the figure stood unchanged over the first 5 years. Similarly, the shares of the latter organization showed an increase of 2% every 5 years up until 2000 from its initial 9% to amount to 17%, thereafter which the percentage more than doubled.

As for the percentages of top woman managers in Finsbury Ltd, by contrast, the trend was erratic. In 1975, the figure was 16%, but it had declined marginally to 14% by 1980. The shares rose noticeably over the next decade to 22%, before falling again to one-fifth in 2000, and seeing a rise to 26% at the end.

The flow chart illustrates how hydroelectric power station works.

Clearly, the process of generating electricity using hydro power has two clear sets of stages. While in the first the nature plays a part, in the second one the use of specialized equipment is needed. Throughout the process, the only raw material utilized is water.

Focusing firstly on the natural stages, the sun causes the water to evaporate and form clouds. These clouds then fall in the form of rain, filling the reservoir with water. To keep water, and control the inflow and outflow of it from the reservoir, a dam is used, underneath of which there is a valve serving the purpose of a gate. The water from the dam powers the turbine before it is returned back to the dam with a pump.

The steps that require sophisticated equipment now begin. The powered turbine generates electricity, which is then sent to a transformer station via high-voltage cables. This is where the electricity is normalized to be consumed. Finally, the power is ready to be used, and it is delivered to end-users like households, industries, hospitals and schools through underground cables.

task 1 - honey process.pdf
The flow chart illustrates how honey is produced on a small-scale honey farm.

An overall of about 8 steps are involved in producing honey that are divided into two distinct sets of stages: the bee phase and the human phase. Also, a range of specialized equipment and tools are needed to obtain honey.

Looking at the bee phase initially, bees gather nectar from flowers, which they then deposit in their hives. Following this, the bees dry the stored honey and keep their cells clean by fanning with their wings.

The human phase commences with bees sealing cells with wax before collecting honey combs. At the next stage in the process, these combs are pressed with a special device which
squeezes honey out of them. This obtained substance is poured into a sump tank to which heat (45-50 degrees centigrade) is applied. Before pouring the end-product into jars, the honey needs to be cleaned from impurities in a sieve tank and settled for 2-4 days. Finally, the ready-to-consume honey is sold.
