Here's an interesting story

I remember telling Ms.Munavvar as an adult learner she was gonna struggle a lot and probably decide to quit. I guess this flipped a switch in her mind, so to speak, and she promised me she'd prove me wrong. She was so determined that she canceled her long-awaited trip with her mom to Saudi Arabia. Not only did she go on to prove me wrong, but she also pulled off an impressive 8.0 in her speaking.

Here's the result. I ADMIT I WAS WRONG

Hamstring curls - 88 lbs

Leg days get a bad wrap for being the hardest, but not when you got your gym buddies cheering for you.

Vadim: More than a trainer. He's an insanely talented character with an amazing way of mentoring and motivating on my toughest days. Btw, he's getting surprisingly good at English. He went from pronouncing gym "jim" to making witty comments like "it was a cherry on top". You are the real deal, bro

Muhammad Annas: If you think I'm a gym buff, wait until you see Muhammad Annas hit the weights. He's a humble "monster" who lifts 300lbs for reps. Excited to see his videos soon. Thanks for the push. You were on fire today.

p.s. my trainer actually wanted a reshoot, but I had nothing left in the tank. So, we called it a day. I guess this version looks just fine (expect for my sloppy form and technique)

Nowadays many people complain that they have difficulties getting enough sleep.

What problem can lack of sleep cause?

What can be done about lack of sleep?

Sleep deprivation is one of the most commonly reported disorders today. This issue can lead to many other problems, so several measures should be taken to remedy the situation.

Sleeplessness has several negative implications in one’s life. Firstly, it can undermine one’s overall wellbeing. When sleep-deprived, people experience a range of physiological and mental issues such as chronic fatigue, increased risk of heart attack, depression and irritability. These problems, in turn, are followed by a decline in one’s quality of life. Another consequence of inadequate sleep is poor productivity. Since sleep is considered an essential recovery phase, people suffering from chronic sleeping disorder experience lack of drive and motivation, which manifests in inferior academic and work performance. If this situation persists, sleep-deprived individuals are likely to undergo major setbacks in life such as failing important exams or losing a job.

Having established the severity of poor sleep, it is important to explore some solutions for this problem. Arguably the most effective measure would be improving one’s sleeping hygiene. This can be done by setting fixed bedtime hours, restricting phone use in bed, adjusting room temperature, to name but a few. This way, one can create a healthy sleeping schedule and an environment which is conducive to sleep. Limiting one’s consumption of coffee and energy drinks is another prerequisite for quality sleep. This is because these beverages contain caffeine, which has been found to interfere with sleep patterns. Only after restricting their caffeine intake can insomniacs expect improvement in the quality of their sleep.

In conclusion, while compromised personal wellbeing and productivity are two major side-effects of lack of sleep, solutions vary from better sleep hygiene to limited intake of caffeinated drinks.

Some businesses observe that new employees who just graduated from a college or university seem to lack the interpersonal skills needed for communication with their colleagues.

What could be the reason for this?

What solutions can help address this problem?

Some employers have raised concerns over poor communication skills of their new recruits who have just completed their college studies. There are several reasons why this is the case, and this problem can be addressed in two principal ways.

In my view, blame for inadequate interpersonal skills among young recruits lies with the education system. This is because most schools and universities offer limited chances for gaining practical experience. Practical experience sessions are critical in developing social skills as they involve frequent social interaction between the learner and the mentor. Failure of colleges to provide students with opportunities to become involved in practical work is therefore a leading factor behind socially inept young workers. Another major problem with the school system is the nature of assessment. Higher education institutions tend to measure student acquisition on an individual work or paper-exam basis rather than group projects. As a result, students are deprived of chances to work as a team and develop much-needed communication skills.

The problem of young employees lacking soft skills require both college and workplace involvement to be solved. On a college level, the teaching curriculum should be overhauled to incorporate practical work sessions and group project assessments. This is because increasing the quantity of sessions involving active social interaction and mutual support in colleges enhances students’ prospect of acquiring interpersonal skills. Having acquired these skills early in college, college graduates are less likely to experience communication issues later when they join the workforce. Employers in the workplace also have a part to play. They should organize social events such as coffee breaks and parties more frequently so as to create an environment conducive to social engagement and bonding for their employees of all ages. All these factors increase the likelihood of improved communication skills for the socially introverted employees, including recent college graduates.

In conclusion, the issue of young workers with poor interpersonal skills is mostly due to the failure of colleges. In response, colleges and employers should facilitate more chances for social interactions in forms of practical work sessions, group projects, and social gatherings in the workplace.

In the past, most people worked for small businesses, while more people now work for large businesses.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of working for large businesses?

Over the past few decades, the preference of people about the place of work has shifted from small to large companies. This essay will explore the benefits and drawbacks of working for large organizations.

On the one hand, there are a number of advantages associated with employment in large businesses. One of them is the chance to earn more money. Large organizations, such as Google, Amazon, Walmart and Adidas among others, have substantial sales turnover, meaning they can afford generous rewards, salaries and bonuses. Another positive is the possibility of moving up the career ladder more quickly. Provided that an employee is diligent, qualified, and goal-oriented, they can expect decent career growth in such corporations. Both of these are in stark contrast with small-scale businesses, where employees are less likely to be promoted or properly compensated.

We shouldn't, however, overlook the negatives of working for large enterprises. Perhaps the main problem of this trend is inherent bureaucracy that exists in many large-scale businesses. For instance, it may take a couple of weeks for a suggestion made by an employee at the lowest level of organization's hierarchy to reach executives due to all the paper work involved. While this generalization may not hold true for some major businesses, for the majority it is the case. Aside from this, large corporations tend to enforce more stringent employment rules. Although it may be forgivable to run late for 15-20 minutes and permissible to ask for a day off for a family trip in small businesses, these behaviors may halt the entire process in the latter type of organization.

In conclusion, while the benefits of working for large companies range from better employee remuneration to greater chances for promotion, the demerits of it are likely to include bureaucracy and stricter employment policies.

The bar chart provides information on the quantity of films shot in five different countries over three consecutive years: 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Three out of the five countries witnessed an increase in their film production. The number of films produced by country B stood at 50 in the initial year. After a negligible rise in the following year, this figure climbed markedly to finish at 70. However, a lot fewer films were shot in countries C and E in 2007, at about 8-9 each. Over the next two years, while the former's film production output slightly more than doubled, the latter's changed minimally by only around 3 units.

By contrast, countries A and D saw their film releases fall. Staying stable during the first two years, the quantity for country A dropped by roughly 8 units to reach 80 in 2009. The other nation, meanwhile, showed a slightly different pattern of change: after a dip from 15 to just under 10 between 2007 and 2008, its figure slightly rose to approximately 13 in the final year.

In general, countries A and B released significantly more films compared with the other three nations. While the number of films produced by countries B, C and E showed an upward trend over the period, the reverse was true for countries A and D. It is also apparent that the most significant growth was observed in country B, but it was country A that had the highest figure in each year.

The line chart provides information on the number of international conferences organized in three different cities between 1965 and 2010.

In cities A and B, the number of international conferences witnessed a fall. The figure for the former declined sharply from 35 to 20 during the decade, before rising to 30 in 1985 and fluctuating to finish at 20. Meanwhile, city B's change wasn't as dramatic, and this city witnessed mild fluctuations and a decrease of around 10 conferences over the period to reach 20 in 2010.

By contrast, the other city showed the reversed pattern of change. After soaring from 0 in 1965 to around 27 in 1995, the number of conferences in city C dipped to just under 25 in 2005 and picked up again, amounting to slightly under 30 in 2010.

Overall, there were fluctuations in the quantities of all the three cities, but those of cities A and B declined over the period, whereas the figure for city C increased markedly. It is also apparent that city C showed the most significant change over the time frame to take the lead by the end, while initially dominant city (A) ended up organizing the least conferences.

Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

What other measures do you think might be effective?

Some suggest the most effective way of solving rising traffic and pollution issues would be raising the price of petrol. I, however, do not share the same view as I believe issues around traffic and pollution can be addressed in more sensible ways.

In my view, an increase in petrol price may not be the answer to concerns over traffic and pollution. From an economic standpoint, a change in petrol price is offset by today’s improving living standards. People generally make a better living today than in the past due to the booming world economy, so they would for the most part not be affected by expensive gas prices. There is also social component to consider. Not only is car ownership seen as a means of travelling, but also as an indication of individual’s social ranking. Seeing as people tend to attach considerable social significance to their personal vehicle, attempts to discourage them to minimize their car use through increased fuel prices are likely to fail.

Since higher petrol prices are not the most optimal solution, it is important to consider some alternative methods of tackling traffic problem and its impact on air quality. One such measure would be car-pooling. This so-called car sharing scheme can slash traffic volume and the release of pollutants into the air as car use efficiency could be maximized. To put it into perspective, rather than have every traveler travel alone, multiple commuters could be transported in one vehicle. What makes this idea more appealing than public transport is access to relatively more space and conveniences such as air-conditioning. Additionally, government should make cars less affordable through rigorous taxes and tariffs. This added cost of purchasing a personal vehicle would discourage car ownership in the first place, hence curbing/curtailing traffic and pollution levels.

In conclusion, improved living standards and social aspect of owning a car are why increasing the price of fuel may not the best solution to traffic and pollution problems. Instead, people should be encouraged to share their personal vehicle through car-pooling systems or discouraged to own a car by imposing levies on cars.
