A lot of places in the world rely on tourism as a main source of income. Unfortunately, tourism can also be a source of problems if it is not well-managed.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of tourism in the modern world?

Tourism has become a primary revenue stream for many countries across the world. However, tourism also causes some problems when left to its own devices. The following essay will examine some major issues stemming from tourism as well as acknowledging its advantages.

To start, tourism has some concerning externalities to consider, the main one of which is environmental damage. Severe environmental harm is done to the host country when hotels and restaurants are built at the expense of natural habitats to serve incoming visitors. Loss of natural habitats not only disturbs the wildlife of the host country, but also locals whose livelihood depend on those places of nature. Many forms of pollution such as air, water, noise, and light also compound when an increasing number of people visit a country for entertainment. All these factors undermine/compromise the quality of life in the host country. Additionally, there is an increased risk disease outbreak with constant movement of people around the world. The fact that modern transportation has enabled instant travel is a contributing factor to global pandemics, with COVID-19 being a salient example. Unless carefully monitored, it is quite likely that more global pandemics will occur as a result of mass tourism.

Tourism, on the other hand, can be equally virtuous. Evidently, it is a boon to the economy. Many jobs are created in the hospitality industry with the growth of tourism around the world seeing as staff is required to cater for the needs of tourists. This means more and more people can earn a living, make purchases, and essentially, be a meaningful part of the economy. My hometown, Bukhara, has benefitted greatly from tourism with the creation of jobs for tour guides, taxi drivers, restaurant workers and hotel employees. Furthermore, tourism reinforces deeper cultural understanding and exchange. That is, people gain thorough insights into other cultures when they visit historical monuments, attend foreign traditional festivals and try foreign cuisine. This, in turn, fosters stronger intercultural bonds among nations.

In conclusion, while the main drawbacks of tourism are a detriment to the environment and an elevated risk of global pandemics, the positive features range from economic growth to strong cultural ties.

The diagram illustrates the process of shaping glass containers. On the whole, there are nine distinct stages in this linear process, starting with melting glass and finishing with packaging stages. It is also worth mentioning that the process requires specialized equipment and some external influence.

The first set of stages involves molding glass containers. Initially, small glass pieces are placed into a furnace with a funnel-like opening. After this, these glass pieces are heated to 105 degrees Celsius, before being put into a special mold to be pressed. In the following phase, the molded glass is transferred to the second mold for further pressing and thinning the glass wall, whereupon the air is let into the mold to cool the container.

The rest of the phases of the process all happen outside the mold. Once the molded container has been taken out, it is put into a kiln where it is heated to 482 degrees Celsius for hardening. Subsequently, the glass container undergoes the process of cooling for about an hour in a separate container that has a moderate temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. In the final stage, quality control specialists scrutinize every product for defects, and if any found, they are wasted, whereas good ones are placed into boxes for sale.

The bar chart provides data on the proportion of people who went to cinemas on different days of the week in a country in Europe. The study covers the years 2003, 2005 and 2007.

Overall, the proportions of cinema-goers on Monday through Thursday were a lot smaller than those on Saturday, Sunday and Friday over the period, with Saturday registering the highest numbers throughout.

Focusing on the first four days of the week, the shares of movie-goers on Monday and Thursday increased over the period, from around 10 to 13% and from about 12% to just under a fifth, respectively. However, the figures for the other two days declined: while Tuesday showed a negligible 2-percent drop to 18% during the timeframe, Wednesday saw its share halve to approximately 8% in 2007.

The weekends and Friday comprised relatively larger proportions. For example, after growing from 40% to a peak of 45% between 2003 and 2005, the figure for those paying a visit to cinemas on Saturday dropped marginally by roughly 2%. Although Sunday witnessed almost the same pattern of change, albeit with smaller percentages, as Saturday did, rising from 30% to about a third, the figures for Friday remained constant at 30%.

The table provides data on the number of automobiles produced in Thailand, Argentina and Australia over three-year intervals between 2003 and 2009.

The number of cars manufactured in Argentina and Thailand stood at about 235,000 and 735,000 units, respectively. The former showed a more or less steady increase and had made roughly 466,000 light vehicles by the end of the period. However, the latter, after hitting the table high of approximately 1.2m in 2006, witnessed a slight decline to just under a million.

As far as Australia's car production is concerned, it started with about 452,000 units in the initial year, but this figure almost halved over the next six years, amounting to around 245,000 automobiles in 2009.

In summary, the quantity of cars produced in Argentina and Thailand rose over the period, whereas that of Australia showed the reverse. It is also apparent that Thailand registered the highest numbers in each year studied.

I will soon share a list of YouTube channels with amazing content on WRITING ✍️. Most of them are run by former examiners.

We aren’t gonna organize writing and/or speaking marathons.

But, these awesome channels should be good enough to boost your ielts score, guys. You don’t have to spend a single penny on so-called marathons.
