On March 6, 1963, OAS (2. link) militant Jean de Brem assassinated an international banker, Henri Laford, in a shooting attack outside of the banker’s house. He targeted the banker because he supported the “decolonization” of Algeria and opposed the OAS. He also targeted him because the banker supported the death sentence of Jean Bastien-Thiry (2. link), who attempted to kill French President Charles de Gaulle. The banker also refused to finance the OAS.
