And why should I not worship HE who created me and to whom you will be returned?

How could I take besides HIM other gods whose intercession would not be of any benefit to me, nor could they save me if the Most Merciful intends for me some adversity?

Indeed, I would then be in manifest error. Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me.

It was said, "Enter Paradise." He said, "I wish my people could know of how my Lord has forgiven me and placed me among the honored."

HOW TO CATCH UP WITH RAK'AH

If a person joins the congregation when the imam is bowing, one of the following three scenarios applies:

1️⃣ He says takbīratul-ihram (saying “Allāhu akbar” to start the prayer) whilst standing, then he bows whilst the imam is bowing. In this case he has caught up with the rak‘ah with the imam.

2️⃣ He says takbīratul-ihram whilst the imam is bowing, but he bows after the imam has stood up from rukoo’. In this case he is not counted as having caught up with the rak‘ah with the imam, and he has to make it up.

3️⃣ He bows straightaway without saying takbīratul-ihram. In this case his prayer is invalid, because he has omitted one of the pillars or essential parts of the prayer, which is takbīratul-ihram.

"The fuqaha’ are agreed that whoever catches up with the imam in rukoo’ has caught up with the rak‘ah, because the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever catches up with rukoo’ has caught up with the rak‘ah.'" {Abu Dawūd}

Shaykh al-Albāni said (in Irwa’ al-Ghaleel, pg. 262): one of the things that strengthens the hadīth is the fact that the Sahābah acted in accordance with this:

1️⃣ Ibn Mas’ood, who said: “Whoever does not catch up with the imam when he is bowing has not caught up with that rak‘ah.”

2️⃣ ‘Abdullāh ibn ‘Umar, who said: “If you come when the imam is bowing, and you put your hands on you knees before the imam stands up, then you have caught up (with that rak‘ah).”

3️⃣ Zayd ibn Thaabit, who used to say: “Whoever catches up with the rak‘ah before the Imam raises his head has indeed caught up with the rak‘ah.”

FORBIDDING MURDER AND SUICIDE

ALLAH said,

And do not kill yourselves.

That is, do not kill one another, and no one should kill himself. This includes throwing oneself into risky activities or dangers that may lead to harm or death.

Surely, ALLAH is Most Merciful to you.

By HIS mercy HE protects you and your wealth, forbids you to waste it or destroy it, and HE has ordained consequences for that in the form of hudood punishments.

{Tafsir As-Sadi}

Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of ALLAH, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

"Whoever kills himself with an iron tool, then his tool will be in his hand and he will keep stabbing himself with it in the Fire of Jahannam, forever and ever.

Whoever kills himself with poison, then his poison will be in his hand and he will keep taking it in the Fire of Jahannam forever and ever.

Whoever kills himself by throwing himself from a mountain, will keep falling in the Fire of Jahannam forever and ever."

{al-Bukhari #5442, Muslim #109}

Jundub reported: The Messenger of ALLAH, peace and blessings be upon him, said,

“A man among those before you was wounded. He was in such anguish that he took a knife, slit his wrist, and let the blood flow until he died. ALLAH Almighty said: MY servant has preceded me with his soul, so I have forbidden Paradise for him.”

HELL WILL BE CARRIED BY 4.9 BILLION ANGELS

The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said:
“Hell will be brought on that day with seventy thousands reins, each rein carried by seventy thousand angels.”

{Muslim #2842}

May ALLĀH protect us from Hellfire.
WORSHIP FOR THE SAKE OF ALLĀH IS A MEANS TO ATTAINING NEARNESS TO HIM AND HIS LOVE

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said,

ALLĀH said: Whoever shows hostility to a friend of Mine, I have declared war upon him.

My servant does not grow closer to ME with anything more beloved to ME than the duties I have imposed upon him.

MY servant continues to grow closer to ME with extra good works until I love him.

When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his foot with which he walks.

Were he to ask something from ME, I would surely give it to him.

Were he to ask ME for refuge, I would surely grant it to him.

I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to displease him.

ENCOURAGEMENT TO OBEY ALLĀH BEFORE THE DAY OF RESURRECTION

ALLĀH said:

Respond to your Lord before the coming of a Day from ALLĀH that cannot be averted.

Here ALLĀH instructs HIS slaves to respond to HIM by complying with HIS commands and heeding HIS prohibitions, and by hastening to do so and not procrastinating, before the Day of Resurrection comes which, when it comes, cannot be put back and it will not be possible to make up for what was missed.

No refuge will you have that Day, nor for you will there be any denial.

On that day, the individual will have no refuge to turn to, and no way to escape or flee from his Lord; rather the angels will surround all creatures from the rear and will call out: "O jinn and humans, if you are able to pass beyond the confines of the heavens and the earth, then do so. But you cannot pass beyond them unless you have power." {ar-Rahman: Verse 33}

On that day, no one will be able to deny what he committed of sins; in fact even if he does deny it, his own physical faculties will testify against him.

In this and similar verses, there is a condemnation of those who hope to live long, and a command to make the most of any opportunity that comes along to do a good deed, because procrastinating leads to a great deal of trouble.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}

Abu Hurairah (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of ALLĀH said,

"Hasten to do good deeds before you are overtaken by one of the seven afflictions."

Then (giving a warning) he said, "Are you waiting for poverty which will make you unmindful of devotion, or prosperity which will make you corrupt, or a disease which will disable you, or senility which will make you mentally unstable, or sudden death which will take you all of a sudden, or Ad-Dajjal who is the worst expected, or the Hour; and the Hour will be most grievous and most bitter.''

FASTING AL-AYYAM AL-BEED (THE WHITE DAYS) FOR RAJAB 1445H

The white days of the month refer to the 13th, 14th, and 15th of each lunar month. The moon is at its fullest and most luminous during this period. Fasting on these days (Al-Ayyam Al-Beed) is sunnah, mentioned in various hadith.

The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said: "Fasting three days of each month is equivalent to fasting for a lifetime. The days of al-beed (white days) are the 13th, 14th & 15th." [Sunan an-Nasai]

ALLAH'S Messenger ﷺ said: "It is sufficient for you to fast three days every month because, for every good deed, you will have (the reward of) ten like it, so that will be like fasting for a lifetime." [Sahih al-Bukhari]

THERE IS NO MONASTICISM IN ISLAM

ALLĀH says;

O believers! Do not forbid the good things which ALLĀH has made lawful for you

Ali bin Abi Talhah said that Ibn Abbas said,

"This Ayah was revealed about some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ who said, We should cut off our male organs, abandon the desires of this life and travel in the land, just as the Ruhban (monks) do.' When the Prophet ﷺ heard of this statement, he summoned them and asked them if they made this statement and they answered Yes.'

The Prophet ﷺ said,
I fast and break my fast, pray and sleep, and marry women. Whoever follows my Sunnah is of me, and whoever abandons my Sunnah is not of me."

It is recorded in the Two Sahihs that Aishah said that; 'some of the Companions asked the wives of the Prophet about the acts of worship that he performed in private.

One of them said, "I will not eat meat," another said, "I will not marry women," while the third said, "I will not sleep on the bed."

When the Prophet ﷺ heard this statement, he said,

"What is the matter with some people who said such and such I fast and break the fast, sleep and wake to stand to pray, eat meat, and marry women. He who is not pleased with my Sunnah is not of me."

ALLĀH'S statement

and do not transgress.

means, do not exaggerate and make it hard for yourselves by prohibiting the permissible things. Do not transgress the limits by excessively indulging in the permissible matters; only use of it what satisfies your need; and do not fall into extravagance.

ALLĀH said in other Ayat,

And eat and drink but waste not by extravagance. {Al-Araaf: 31}

and,

And those, who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a medium ˹way˺ between those ˹extremes˺. {al-Furqān: 67}

So ALLĀH legislated a medium way between those who are extreme and those who fall into shortcomings, and it does not allow excessive application, nor lack of application.

O Children of Adam! Take your adornment to every Masjid. Eat and drink, but do not waste. Surely HE does not like the wasteful.

Say, Who has forbidden the adornments and lawful provisions ALLĀH has brought forth for HIS servants? Say, They are for those who believed during the life of this world, exclusively ˹for them˺ on the Day of Resurrection. This is how WE make OUR revelations clear for people of knowledge.

Say, My Lord has only forbidden immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed - and sin, and oppression without right, and that you associate with ALLĀH that for which HE has not sent down authority, and that you say about ALLĀH that which you do not know.

THE LOVE OF THE WORDLY LIFE

Yahya Ibn Mu'adh (رخمه الله) said:

"How can't I love this life? A sustenance is decreed for me in it which keeps me alive and helps me to perform the deeds of obedience that will lead me to Paradise." Such are the people who should be happy because of the way they regard life, but not those who live in luxurious palaces, neglect worship and reject every deed of obedience.

WORLD IS CURSED EXCEPT FOR REMEMBRANCE OF ALLĀH, KNOWLEDGE

Abu Hurairah (May ALLĀH be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of ALLĀH ﷺ said,
"The world, with all that it contains, is accursed except for the remembrance of ALLĀH and what facilitates it; and the religious scholars and seekers of knowledge.''

[At-Tirmidhi].

COMMENTARY:

This Hadith does not mean that this world, and whatever is in it, is really cursed. What it in fact means is that such things of this world are cursed which make a person negligent of the remembrance of ALLĀH; or it is cursed for those who in their whole life do not remember ALLĀH. This Hadith which relates to knowledge for the reason that acquisition of knowledge is essential to know that such and such work will be a source of winning the Pleasure of ALLĀH and such and such act will incur HIS displeasure. This is the reason the teacher and the learner have been included in the exemptions from the curse.

THE DISBELIEVERS ARE PUNISHED IN WAYS THEY DO NOT PRESUME

ALLAH said:

So leave to ME those who reject this message

meaning, the Qur'an.

This is a sever threat which means, `leave ME alone with this person; I know about him and how I will gradually punish him and increase him in his falsehood. I am giving him respite for a while, then I will seize him with a mighty and powerful punishment.'

Thus, ALLĀH says,

WE will gradually draw them to destruction in ways they cannot comprehend.

meaning, and they will not even be aware of it. Rather, they will believe that it is a noble blessing from ALLĀH, but really the same matter is actually a form of humiliation (for them).

This is similar to ALLĀH'S statement,

So, when they forgot that which they had been reminded, We opened for them the gates of everything, until in the midst of their enjoyment in that which they were given, all of a sudden, WE punished them, and lo! They were plunged into destruction with deep regrets and sorrows. {al-An'am: Verse 44}

{Tafsi‌r Ibn Kathīr}

Al-Hasan Al-Basri said,

"Whomever ALLĀH gives provision and he thinks that ALLĀH is not testing him, has no wisdom. Whomever has little provision and thinks that ALLĀH will not look at (provide for) him, has no wisdom."

VICTORY ONLY COMES AFTER SUCCEEDING IN THE TRIALS

ALLĀH says:

Do you think you will be admitted into Paradise without being tested like those before you?

Here, ALLĀH tells us that HE will inevitably test HIS slaves with both ease and hardship, as HE tested those who came before them. This is HIS way that never alters or changes. Whoever adheres to HIS religion and follows HIS laws will inevitably be tested; if he is patient in bearing the decree of ALLĀH and does not worry about the difficulties he encounters for HIS sake, then he is the sincere one who has attained true happiness and high status. Whoever regards the trials that befall people as a punishment from ALLĀH, in that hardship deterred him from carrying on what he had committed himself to, then he is insincere in his claim to be a believer, because faith is not mere wishful thinking and claims, unless it is proven or disproven by one’s deeds.

{Tafsi‌r As-Sa'di}
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL POEM!

O Son of Adam! Your mother gave birth to you whilst crying!

And the people surrounding you were laughing and joyful.

So work in good deeds for a day, in which they will cry

So that you will be on the day of your death laughing and joyous.
