Rafi ibn Amr radhiallahu anhu relates,

"When I was a boy, I used to throw stones at our date palms." I was brought to the Prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and he asked me, "My dear boy, why are you throwing stones at the date palms?" I replied, "So I can eat." He said, "Don't throw stones at the date palms. Rather eat from what falls to the ground from them." Then he patted me on the head and said, "O Allah give him enough to eat."

The #Qirat Night series has become a regular feature in Port Elizabeth over the last five years. It offers a chance to the future Huffaz to read in masjids across the city without the pressure of competition.

The attendance at each recital has been phenomenal with well over 1,200 people attending the nine editions. 175 recitals of the Noble #Quran have enriched the book of deeds of the reciters, their parents, teachers, and the founders and committees of the nine Masjids.

Each edition is open to all Hifz classes in the city.

The latest edition was no different. The notorious northern areas played host to the event on Sat, 25 February 2023. Masjid Saaliheen in Salt Lake, with picturesque views over the lakes saw around 80 people attend the recitals.

15 students from 8 Hifz classes recited. They were treated to personalised gifts and chocolates as a motivation. The resident Imam, Sheikh Aadil Qaasim was the MC for the evening.

The events are held at different masjids to allow participants the opportunity of developing confidence in new environments, and to create an atmosphere of blessing across the city.
