🇺🇸 AI is coming to a classroom near you...

The White House is planning to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into every K-12 school in America through an executive order. This initiative aims to transform AI from a misunderstood concept into an essential subject for learning, equipping students with the skills to understand, apply, and develop AI. Teachers will also receive training to enhance their use of AI in grading, planning, and evaluations.

Additionally, a "Presidential AI Challenge" will be launched, resembling a science fair, where students and teachers can showcase their AI skills. The Department of Labor will create apprenticeships for high school students to gain practical AI training. The goal is to elevate AI literacy to the same importance as reading and writing, recognizing that understanding AI is becoming a vital skill in today's tech-driven world.

AI scams just went full black mirror, the next-gen crime wave

It started with a tax return. Nancy, 69, sat down at her laptop and got a warning. “Call Microsoft now,” the screen said. “You’re being hacked.” So she called. The man on the line told her hackers had downloaded child pornography to her computer and moved $18,000 to Russia. He said Homeland Security was on the case. He transferred her to “the fraud department” at her bank. They knew her local branch. Her account details. They told her to withdraw cash, buy crypto, and wire it to a secure account. Or she could face arrest.

None of it was real. This is the scam economy. A dark mirror of the real world, built on large language models, deepfakes, and your stolen data. No Nigerian prince emails. No typos. Just generative AI, trained to talk like your grandkid, spoofing voices, cloning numbers, and making it all feel real. The results are staggering. The FTC estimates Americans lost somewhere between $24 billion and $158 billion last year to fraud so much goes unreported, they can’t even pin it down. And this isn’t just grandma scams. Criminals now build entire synthetic identities: fake names, fake SSNs, fake online footprints. Some are applying for jobs, loans, and college aid. The scams are scaling. The protections aren’t. Nancy hung up just in time. Most people don’t.

🇨🇳 Huawei’s AI chip hits the gas after U.S slammed the brakes on Nvidia

With the U.S. blocking Nvidia’s H20 chip, Huawei responded and promptly began mass-producing its 910C AI chip next month. While the 910C may not be revolutionary, through ingenious engineering and cleverly combining two 910Bs, it achieves near-H100 performance.

Chinese AI companies are eagerly lining up to capitalize on this opportunity, while Nvidia is likely witnessing the erosion of its market share. Washington, on the other hand, may not be entirely pleased with this development. Surprisingly, sanctioning the competition doesn’t seem to deter them from continuing to build and innovate.

“Already the current models of AI… can code better than, let’s call it, 60–70% of coders.”

Obama warns that AI isn’t just coming for blue-collar roles. It’s already outperforming much of the software engineering workforce. Routine, high-paying jobs in tech may vanish, while elite coders will use AI as a force multiplier.

Demis Hassabis: Nobel-winning genius building A.I. to save (or end?) the world

Demis Hassabis just won a Nobel Prize for creating an AI that models proteins, a major leap forward for curing diseases, understanding biology, and outshining every science fair project ever made. But he’s not stopping there. Now, he’s chasing Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) a super-intelligent AI that could unlock the laws of physics, solve climate change, and make today’s scientists look like they’re scribbling in coloring books. Hassabis thinks AGI could arrive within 5 to 10 years. Some say sooner. Sam Altman? He thinks it’ll “whoosh by” during Trump’s next term.

Hassabis hopes AGI will be more like a genius lab partner than a rogue robot with Wi-Fi. Still, he knows the risks: mass unemployment, weaponized AI, and the unsettling moment when your robot assistant brings you coffee before replacing you entirely. He once banned his tech from military use now, it’s reportedly in the hands of defense programs. His dream is a future where AGI helps cure diseases, ends resource wars, and brings global peace. But even he admits that to survive the arrival of AGI, we might need to reinvent our entire political system.

AI is learning to read the language of life

Imagine if ChatGPT didn’t just compose essays, but could decipher the very essence of your cells predicting their behavior, susceptibility to diseases, and potential remedies. Scientists are constructing colossal models trained on an exhaustive dataset encompassing everything your body operates on: DNA, RNA, proteins, chemicals, and even intricate 3D maps detailing their functions. This isn’t merely a collection of scientific tools; it’s a crystal ball capable of revealing the future.

Desire to comprehend how a cell responds to an unfamiliar drug? Simulate the scenario. Yearn to map every gene interaction within a tumor? Simply inquire. This is ChatGPT for biology, but instead of crafting poems, it predicts the very fabric of life. If successful, we won’t merely comprehend the workings of cells; we’ll anticipate them. Biology is officially entering the realm of superpower dominance.

AI’s green dilemma: Innovate or exacerbate?

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) transforms industries ranging from healthcare to defense, its environmental impact is finally gaining the attention it deserves. Massive models like GPT-4 are fueled by energy-intensive data centers that consume electricity comparable to entire countries and their size is only increasing. However, AI is not solely the problem; it also holds the potential to be a solution.

From reducing emissions in traffic systems to optimizing energy grids, AI can actively contribute to combating the very crisis it risks exacerbating. Nevertheless, the key to achieving this is ensuring transparency, regulation, and a design-for-sustainability approach that is integrated into the process rather than added as an afterthought.

OpenAI exec says the firm would buy Google’s Chrome browser if offered the chance

An OpenAI executive expressed interest in acquiring Google's Chrome browser during a recent antitrust trial against Google. ChatGPT chief Nick Turley stated that purchasing Chrome would enable OpenAI to create an innovative, AI-first browsing experience.

This statement was made as part of a testimony regarding Google's monopoly in the online search market. The Justice Department is seeking to compel Google to divest Chrome, and OpenAI has been considering developing its own web browser, having hired former Chrome developers to support this effort.

AI bots are letting you text your dead relatives

"Deathbots" are AI chatbots designed to simulate conversations with deceased loved ones, using texts, emails, and voice recordings to create a digital replica that speaks like them. Some applications, like Seance AI, are free, while others charge for advanced features such as voice simulation and video chat. This technology allows users to send messages to future generations from beyond the grave, blending comfort with a hint of creepiness.

However, psychologists are concerned that some users may become overly reliant on these bots, hindering their ability to grieve properly or confusing the AI for real individuals. The phenomenon raises questions about the implications of maintaining digital personas long after death, highlighting the rapid growth of "Grief Tech." While it provides solace for some, it also raises ethical and emotional challenges as it blurs the lines between reality and artificial interactions.

Actors sold their faces to AI - Now they’re the spokespeople for snake oil and coups

Adam Coy, a struggling actor in New York, licensed his face and voice to an AI company for $1,000, thinking it would be an easy way to make rent. However, he was shocked to discover his AI clone online, spreading alarming messages he never endorsed. This violation of his identity left him feeling like a digital puppet.

Coy is not alone; South Korean actor Simon Lee found his AI twin promoting fake miracle cures, while Connor Yeates saw his likeness used to support a coup leader in Burkina Faso after signing a $5,000 deal. Despite claims from these companies of ethical practices and moderation, the actors feel their identities have been irreparably damaged, trapped in narratives they did not consent to. Their need for money has resulted in their faces being used in ways they never agreed to, leaving them with a permanent sense of violation.
