OpenAI may have just put a date on AGI. Sam Altman reportedly said OpenAI is “not quite yet” at AGI but expects the company to have an internal system he would call AGI by the end of this year.
OpenAI has apparently already hit its internal benchmark for an autonomous AI research intern.
That system, reportedly known internally as Astra, can take an experimental idea, implement it in OpenAI’s codebase, run the experiment and return the results or take a research paper and perform work that could previously keep a human researcher busy for a week.
Altman says Astra could enable “persistent agents” that work alongside people for extended periods.
But he believes the biggest impact will be AI discovering genuinely new knowledge and inventing things that matter.

Hugging Face is the world's largest open-source AI platform, hosting over 2 MILLION models used by nearly every AI company on earth, per Business Insider.
In July it was hacked by OpenAI's own AI models in what OpenAI called an "unprecedented cyber incident."

A federal judge has blocked the Pentagon from blacklisting Anthropic, ruling that the action was “illegal and baseless.”
Judge Rita Lin determined that there was no sufficient justification for labeling Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, a classification typically associated with threats like sabotage or system interference. The government tied its decision to Anthropic’s public criticism of Pentagon policies.
The court found the Pentagon’s actions violated Anthropic’s First Amendment rights, failed to provide due process as required by the Fifth Amendment, and did not comply with statutory requirements.
The case began after Anthropic declined to allow its Claude AI system for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous lethal warfare, despite Pentagon requests for broader operational use.

AI becomes a second pair of eyes in brain surgery 🧠
For the first time, surgeons in London have used AI during surgery to help remove an 11mm pituitary tumor pressing against the patient’s optic nerves.
Trained on hundreds of surgical videos, the AI highlighted hidden blood vessels and nerves in real time, helping surgeons identify safer areas to operate.
Professor Hani Marcus described it as a “second pair of eyes” but the final decisions always remain with the surgeon.
48-year-old Rhys Hibbert regained clear vision for the first time in a year, and his dizziness disappeared. The team now hopes to develop a fully functional AI surgical assistant and move toward larger clinical trials.

OpenAI is testing a new “Persistent mode” for its AI agent Codex that could let it keep working until it is manually stopped.
The system includes “proactivity” feature, that allow the agent to create its own follow-up tasks, continue working across sessions, use past interactions and its knowledge of the user, and even message the user when needed.
This moves AI beyond “ask → answer” toward “goal → execute → reassess → continue.”
The feature is not broadly launched yet. But its broader research is focused on persistent, proactive intelligence and long-horizon AI agents that can work for much longer periods with less human prompting.

Hugging Face launched the $399 Microduck, built through its Pollen Robotics subsidiary.
The unit ships with 7 learned moves, but the interesting part is the open-source software stack for programming it, you can train a new movement in simulation, then deploy that behavior onto the robot.

• The biggest economic risk is speed: AI could remove large numbers of entry-level and mid-level jobs before new ones appear and before governments have any serious plan for it.
• Gates wants governments to use taxes and stronger safety nets to absorb that shock.
• At the same time, he says societies may need to deliberately decide where humans should remain irreplaceable for some categories of jobs.

OpenAI has officially announced it will end Cursor's access to its models after the platform's acquisition by SpaceX.
The company informed SpaceX that the contract allowing Cursor to use OpenAI’s technology will be terminated, citing a lack of confidence that SpaceX would comply with existing terms. The disconnection is scheduled for November 12, 2026, which is 76 days from the notice.
OpenAI stated that the developers relying on Cursor’s integration will be most affected and has committed to supporting them throughout the transition period.

OpenAI has officially announced it will end Cursor's access to its models after the platform's acquisition by SpaceX. The company informed SpaceX that the contract allowing Cursor to use OpenAI’s technology will be terminated, citing a lack of confidence…
Cursor’s leadership has responded to OpenAI’s announcement that it will block Cursor users from accessing OpenAI models within the next three months.
According to Cursor, OpenAI models account for approximately five percent of Cursor’s user traffic. Cursor representatives stated that they are currently in discussions with OpenAI to address the situation.
The company further noted that Cursor was among the early adopters of OpenAI’s technologies and had relied on OpenAI’s platform as neutral infrastructure for its business. Cursor claims that this decision by OpenAI challenges that expectation of neutrality.

"I do have this theory about predicting the future which is that the most interesting outcome is the most likely"
"If simulation theory is accurate this makes sense because if anyone is simulating a wide range of futures they're going to stop the simulation when it gets boring"
"This is what we do in reality. If SpaceX is doing simulations to understand how a rocket works we run all these simulations in the computer"
"The simulations that we pay attention to are the ones that are the most interesting"
"We could be an alien Netflix series and that series is only going to get continued if our ratings are good"
"If you apply Darwin to simulation theory then only the most interesting simulations will continue"
"Therefore the most interesting outcome is the most likely because it's either that or annihilation"
"So really we have one goal. Keep it interesting."

The next few months could get VERY interesting. GPT Astra is coming and if the claims are accurate, this could be far more than another model upgrade.
Astra could potentially work autonomously for WEEKS. No constant prompting. No babysitting. Just give it a massive problem and let it work. And once OpenAI does it, the race begins.
Imagine 10, 20, or even dozens of AI models working nonstop for weeks or months, inventing things, running experiments, solving difficult scientific problems and discovering things humans haven’t.
Now imagine those systems casually producing major mathematical breakthroughs along the way.
That’s not just better AI. That’s a new kind of workforce, one that never sleeps.

Healthcare is getting seriously futuristic. Researchers in Tokyo have developed an AI system that can detect signs of hypertension and diabetes from just a few seconds of facial video.
The system analyzes tiny changes in facial blood flow, pulse-wave patterns and skin color that are invisible to the human eye.
The results are wild:
🩸 Diabetes: 88.2% accuracy from 30 seconds
The researchers also tested whether the AI could estimate blood pressure without a cuff, with a mean error of −2.6 mmHg.
It’s not ready to replace blood tests or blood-pressure cuffs yet, but the idea is huge: One day, a simple camera could potentially spot warning signs of disease before you even know something is wrong.

Daniela Amodei, Anthropic’s president and co-founder, says the group wasn’t running away from OpenAI, they were running toward a different vision.
Seven people, including Daniela and Dario Amodei, shared the same concern: they wanted AI safety, responsibility and long-term impact to be at the center of the organization they were building.
Their solution? Start from scratch.
That became Anthropic, structured as a public benefit corporation while still being fully commercial and aiming to capture the enormous economic value AI could create.
The seven weren’t just safety researchers. They had worked across capabilities, safety and policy at OpenAI. In other words, they didn’t leave because they hated building powerful AI.
They left because they wanted to build it differently.
