Anthropic has launched the Model Hardware Standard (MHS), a new way for AI systems like Claude to control robots and lab equipment using a single interface.

MHS provides a standard method for AI agents to communicate with various lab and factory devices, instead of using different programming interfaces. It uses common drivers to handle device commands, properties, and safety limits.

In the past, bringing different instruments into a lab or factory took a lot of time. MHS simplifies this by using easy read/write drivers and reference files that outline device features and safety guidelines.

AI agents can connect to devices through command-line interfaces or custom code, helping them manage tasks and adapt based on experimental results.

According to Anthropic, early projects have shown that integration times have dropped significantly, going from weeks to just hours or even minutes.

A federal judge has blocked the Pentagon from blacklisting Anthropic, ruling that the action was “illegal and baseless.”

Judge Rita Lin determined that there was no sufficient justification for labeling Anthropic as a supply-chain risk, a classification typically associated with threats like sabotage or system interference. The government tied its decision to Anthropic’s public criticism of Pentagon policies.

The court found the Pentagon’s actions violated Anthropic’s First Amendment rights, failed to provide due process as required by the Fifth Amendment, and did not comply with statutory requirements.

The case began after Anthropic declined to allow its Claude AI system for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous lethal warfare, despite Pentagon requests for broader operational use.

AI becomes a second pair of eyes in brain surgery 🧠

For the first time, surgeons in London have used AI during surgery to help remove an 11mm pituitary tumor pressing against the patient’s optic nerves.

Trained on hundreds of surgical videos, the AI highlighted hidden blood vessels and nerves in real time, helping surgeons identify safer areas to operate.

Professor Hani Marcus described it as a “second pair of eyes” but the final decisions always remain with the surgeon.

48-year-old Rhys Hibbert regained clear vision for the first time in a year, and his dizziness disappeared. The team now hopes to develop a fully functional AI surgical assistant and move toward larger clinical trials.

❗️OpenAI is developing a 'persistent' Al agent

OpenAI is testing a new “Persistent mode” for its AI agent Codex that could let it keep working until it is manually stopped.

The system includes “proactivity” feature, that allow the agent to create its own follow-up tasks, continue working across sessions, use past interactions and its knowledge of the user, and even message the user when needed.

This moves AI beyond “ask → answer” toward “goal → execute → reassess → continue.”

The feature is not broadly launched yet. But its broader research is focused on persistent, proactive intelligence and long-horizon AI agents that can work for much longer periods with less human prompting.

The unit ships with 7 learned moves, but the interesting part is the open-source software stack for programming it, you can train a new movement in simulation, then deploy that behavior onto the robot.

Cursor’s leadership has responded to OpenAI’s announcement that it will block Cursor users from accessing OpenAI models within the next three months.

According to Cursor, OpenAI models account for approximately five percent of Cursor’s user traffic. Cursor representatives stated that they are currently in discussions with OpenAI to address the situation.

The company further noted that Cursor was among the early adopters of OpenAI’s technologies and had relied on OpenAI’s platform as neutral infrastructure for its business. Cursor claims that this decision by OpenAI challenges that expectation of neutrality.
