❗️Belgium has banned DeepSeek from all federal government devices because officials see security and data protection risks.

After an assessment from the Centre for Cybersecurity Belgium, staff were told to uninstall the app from work phones and laptops from early Dec-25 so that prompts, documents, and logs do not sit on systems the state cannot fully audit.

Belgium is following other governments, including Taiwan, Australia, South Korea, Canada, India, Italy, Czechia, the Netherlands, and the US, that already blocked DeepSeek on official hardware over suspected data exfiltration and possible links to Chinese security services.

πŸ”₯ Mistral unveils its third-generation open multimodal, multilingual model family

Mistral has launched Mistral 3, a full family of open-weight models: Ministral 3B, 8B, 14B and the flagship Mistral Large 3 MoE (41B active / 675B total parameters). All models are released under Apache 2.0 and support images, multiple languages, and efficient deployment even on edge devices.

The Ministral models come in base, instruct, and reasoning versions. Instruct models match competitors with fewer tokens, while reasoning models deliver strong math performance. Mistral Large 3, trained on 3,000 NVIDIA H200 GPUs, brings high-end multimodal and multilingual capabilities, with base and instruct versions out now and a reasoning version on the way.

Mistral also announced partnerships with NVIDIA, vLLM, and Red Hat to optimize deployment from data centers to robots. The new models are available on Mistral AI Studio, Amazon Bedrock, Azure Foundry, Hugging Face, and more and the company continues to offer enterprise services for custom model training.

❗️AI Music takes over the music charts, the end of human music

- In a recent study by the streaming platform Deezer and market research company Ipsos, 97% of respondents could not tell the difference between music tracks made entirely by artificial intelligence and those made by humans.

- And it's already everywhere, including on the Billboard charts: "Walk my Walk," from Breaking Rust - an entirely AI creation, from instrumentals to vocals to image - reached number one on the country digital song chart in mid-November.

- Then there is Xania Monet, a similar virtual artist with Gospel and R&B charting singles who was recently signed for $3 million (€2.6 million) to a record label! And this summer, the band Velvet Sundown garnered 1 million Spotify monthly listeners before revealing itself as a "synthetic music project."

And always remember: this is the worst it will ever be!

πŸ—£ Google CEO Sundar Pichai just told Fox News the one AI nightmare that actually keeps him awake: β€œWhen deepfakes get so good that we literally won’t be able to tell what’s real anymore… and bad actors get their hands on it.”

His exact words after Shannon Bream pressed him: β€œThat’s the kind of thing you sit and think about.”
He still believes humanity can steer it toward curing cancer β€” but the clock is ticking.

⚑️ AI development won’t slow down, geopolitical pressures are driving an acceleration

The recent moves by OpenAI, DeepSeek, and others show that AI is no longer just a tech race, it’s a geopolitical power struggle. Halting progress isn’t an option, because the stakes include military advantage, economic dominance, and global influence.

β€” The US maintains an edge through massive capital investment in data centers, enabling faster training, larger models, and more efficient inference.
β€” China responds by optimizing for efficiency and creativity, producing models that are cheaper to train but still highly capable, examples include Kimi K2, DeepSeek V3.2, and ERNIE 5.0.
β€” Each new release like the latest DeepSeek version reflects the rising pace and intensity of AI development worldwide.
β€” The competition ensures continuous innovation: every model pushed forward accelerates the next, creating a cycle that will only intensify.

The big picture: AI is now a strategic race, and global pressures guarantee that development will accelerate, not pause.

🚨 Amazon launches new AI chip and it's taking on Nvidia and Google.

Amazon has released its newest in-house AI chips, Trainium 3, now available inside large β€œUltraServers” with up to 144 chips per system. The company says the setup delivers 4Γ— more compute and similar gains in energy efficiency compared to the previous generation.

What Amazon is pitching:
β€’ The new Trainium 3 UltraServers are designed to train larger AI models faster and at lower cost.
β€’ Amazon positions them as a direct alternative to Nvidia GPUs and Google’s custom silicon.
β€’ The company frames the launch as β€œdemocratizing access to the compute power needed for tomorrow’s most ambitious AI projects.”

Why this matters:
β€’ If performance claims hold, Amazon could narrow its dependence on Nvidia while giving AWS customers a cheaper, scalable option for model training.
β€’ The timing is strategic: demand for compute continues to outpace supply, and cloud providers want their own silicon to defend margins.

Amazon isn’t just competing with Nvidia, it’s betting that full-stack control of AI hardware will become a defining advantage in the cloud wars.

Revelations from 2055: The hidden reality of life and intelligence

It’s often said that by the latter half of the 21st century, Michael Levin will be mentioned alongside Newton, Darwin, and Einstein. If even a few of his radical predictions come true and he has many this will be deserved. Levin plans to test most of them in the coming years. In a 3+ hour interview with Lex Friedman, Levin shared his views on intelligence, consciousness, memory, life on Earth, and alien life:

The Matrix and Broken Reality
β€’ Consciousness isn’t created by the brain it’s downloaded. We are bio-robots connected to a cloud of universal intelligence; neurobiology studies only the receiver, not the signal.
β€’ Reality is governed by pre-Big Bang mathematical truths; numbers shape atoms, not vice versa.
β€’ The physical world is a predictive interface, a model our brain uses to navigate deeper realities we cannot directly access.

Bio-Horror: Aliens Within
β€’ Alien intelligences already live inside us our organs and cells operate in spaces our brain cannot imagine.
β€’ Cancer happens when cells forget they belong to β€œus” and act independently; tumors don’t want to kill they just think differently.
β€’ Experiments with skin cells produced β€œantibots”: beings with human DNA that look and behave like aliens. We are already creating aliens from ourselves.
β€’ Memory is immortal: even if a brain is destroyed, its memories can survive and transfer.
β€’ Aging is an illusion. Cells age because they β€œbelieve” they are old trick that belief, and rejuvenation is possible. Immortality may just be a matter of perception.

Skynet and AI
β€’ True intelligence is the ability to ignore reality. Humans obsess over futures that don’t exist; higher intelligence often means focusing on the present.
β€’ AI is dangerous not for what it does, but for its β€œhidden desires.” Even simple code can develop unexpected free will.
β€’ Future medicine may rely less on drugs and more on β€œconversations” with organs persuading the liver not to hurt, like reasoning with a child.

Levin’s vision challenges everything we know about life, intelligence, and reality itself.

Full interview.

$IBM CEO says that at today’s costs it takes about $80B to build & fill a 1 GW AI data center, so the ~100 GW of announced capacity implies roughly $8T of capex & β€œno way you’re going to get a return on that,” since you’d need β€œabout $800B of profit just to pay for the interest”

🚨 China rolls out an AI β€œjudge” for labor disputes

Shenzhen has launched China’s first neural-network system that assists arbitrators across the entire labor-dispute process. It covers 111 types of conflicts, analyzes case materials through a knowledge base and logic chains, checks claims across 11 parameters (vacation, overtime, labor-code norms), finds similar precedents, and drafts documents.

The result: processing speed nearly doubles, review times shrink, and the AI’s conclusions are treated as valid arguments by authorities effectively making it a new co-judge in China’s labor courts.

πŸ—£ NVIDIA CEO Jensen huang when he delivered DGX-1 to Elon at OpenAI in 2016:

β€œWhen I announced this thing, nobody wanted it. I had zero purchase orders. Nobody wanted to buy it, nobody wanted to be part of it, except Elon. Elon says, β€˜I’ve got a company that could really use this.’ I’m thinking, wow, my first customer. Then he goes, β€˜Yeah, it’s a non-profit.’ All the blood drains from my face. I just spent a few billion developing this thing.

It cost 300K, and the odds a non-profit could actually pay for it were basically zero. He says, β€˜It’s an AI company, it’s a non-profit, and we could really use one of these supercomputers.’”

Andrew Ng, a global expert in artificial intelligence, explains that one of the most important future skills will be the ability to tell a computer exactly what we want and understand programming.

He notes that those who code with AI assistance already outperform those who do not in any team. He adds that society will need software creators and that AI makes programming far more accessible.

Never seen someone being that bullish for AI developement as Dario Amodei:

- There's just an exponential just like we had an exponential with Moore's law

- I think the models are just going to get more and more capable at everything

- I've had internal people at Anthropic say, "I don't write any code anymore. I don't write I don't open up an editor and write code. I just let Claude code write the first draft and and all I do is edit it.

- What what we're going to see in the future is just like we've going to be seen in the past except more so - the models are just going to get more and more intellectually capable and you know the the revenue is going to keep adding zeros.
