[ 🇬🇧 Increase in tuition fees 🚫]

A commission of the National Council has decided, by 21 votes against 3, to multiply the tuition fees for foreign students by a factor of 3 in order to unlock more budget for the ETHs for the years to come, source. This increase will be voted on by the National Council this ❗️Wednesday 29th of May❗️, and if the National Council accepts, the Council of States will discuss the proposition and vote on it in September. The application of this potential increase will not occur earlier than September 2025.

We firmly oppose this increase of tuition fees. Indeed:

1️⃣ This does not solve any problem on campus, in particular the lack of space. If a selection among foreign students must be done, we want to select the foreign students based on their skills, not on their economic capital!

2️⃣ This money will not be used, or is not intended to be used, to offer more services to the student community. In the first place, it would be reinvested in scholarships and nothing guarantees that the rest of it would go towards improving education. If the fees are more expensive, they have to allow better education and better study conditions!

3️⃣ The foreign students are a real source of highly skilled workforce and talent for Switzerland, since a vast majority of them stays in the country after their studies.

Augmentation des Taxes d’Études

🗞️ Mauvaises nouvelles en direct de Berne : Le Conseil des États a voté pour la minorité 1, ce qui signifie que la loi sera modifiée pour imposer des taxes au minimum trois fois plus élevées pour les étranger·ère·s.

🫥 C’est un coup dur, mais l’AGEPoly a fait tout ce qui était en son pouvoir. Malheureusement, le Parlement reste inflexible, malgré tous nos efforts.

👉 Quelles sont les prochaines étapes ? Exprimer notre mécontentement pour souligner l’impact de cette décision sur la communauté et faire entendre notre voix ! Nous allons nous battre pour que cet argent soit utilisé pour les étudiant·e·s au travers de bourses d’études.

🗞 Bad news from Bern: The Council of States has voted in favor of minority 1, which means the law will be changed to make taxes at least three times higher for foreign students.

🫥 It's a tough blow, but AGEPoly has done everything in its power to prevent this. Unfortunately, Parliament remains inflexible, despite all our efforts.

👉 What are our next steps? Express our discontent to highlight the impact of this decision on the community and make our voices heard! We will fight to ensure that this money is used for students through scholarships.

Informations supplémentaires suite à l’Assemblée Générale du 7 mai 2024

L'Assemblée Générale du 7 mai dernier a pris une décision concernant la position de l'EPFL à cette date par rapport à la situation à Gaza et à d’autres sujets liés, comme par exemple la suspension de Polyquity ainsi que la réaction de l'EPFL à l'occupation du SG le 7 mai.

Un·e membre de l’association a contesté la décision de l’Assemblée Générale du 7 mai, laquelle reste en vigueur dans l’attente d’une éventuelle décision de justice. Le·a membre demande de “constater la nullité de la décision prise le 7 mai 2024 par l'assemblée générale de l'association AGEPoly votant la publication d'une prise de position sur le conflit israélo palestinien.”
La procédure de conciliation devant le juge a échoué, c'est-à-dire qu’aucun accord n’a été trouvé entre l’AGEPoly et le·a membre.

Selon le Code civil, l’Assemblée Générale est le pouvoir suprême de l’association. Le comité ne dispose dès lors pas de la compétence pour annuler ou modifier une décision qui a été adoptée par l’AG, seule cette dernière ou une décision de justice est à même d’annuler une décision de l’AG.

Le Comité de Direction attend toujours de savoir si la contestation de la décision de l’AG sera poursuivie en justice.


Le Comité de Direction est conscient que cette éventualité peut susciter des inquiétudes, ainsi la coprésidence (Alexia et Khadija) et le secrétaire général (Tancredi) se proposent de répondre à vos questions. N'hésitez pas à les contacter via presidence@agepoly.ch.

Additional information following the General Assembly of May 7, 2024

The General Assembly of May 7 took a decision on EPFL's position at that date regarding the situation in Gaza and other related issues, such as the suspension of Polyquity and EPFL's reaction to the occupation of the SG on May 7.


A member of the association has challenged the decision of the General Assembly of May 7, which remains in force pending a possible court ruling. The member is asking the court to “declare null and void the decision taken on May 7, 2024 by the General Assembly of AGEPoly voting to publish a position paper on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.” (translated from French).
The conciliation procedure before the judge failed, i.e. no agreement was reached between AGEPoly and the member.

According to the Civil Code, the General Assembly is the supreme power of the association, so a request to declare null and void a GA decision cannot be fulfilled by the AGEPoly Board, but only by the GA or following a court decision.
The Board is still waiting to hear whether the challenge to the GA decision will be pursued through the courts.

The Board is aware that this eventuality may give rise to concern, so the Co-Presidents (Alexia and Khadija) and the Secretary General (Tancredi) are available to answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact them via presidence@agepoly.ch.
