Under provisions of Article 316(1) of the Constitution of India The President of India on Tuesday appointed former Defence Secretary Dr Ajay Kumar (Retd IAS: 1985: KL) as Chairman, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Dr Kumar retired from service as Defence Secretary on October 31, 2022. As per the condition of service he may continue to this coveted constitutional position up to October 2027.
Dr Kumar replaces Preety Sudan (Retd IAS: 1983: AP) who completed her tenure as UPSC Chairman on April 29, 2025.

What is 1267 committee of the UNSC?
In simple terms, it is body at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) designates terrorists. Countries can propose name, & if countries agree, the person/group is designated as a terrorists.
All 15 members of the UNSC are its members.
The committee came into being under Resolution 1267, passed on Oct 15, 1999. It was initially targeting Taliban but expended to include Al Qaida, ISIL & others. The committee maintains a list of sanctioned individuals, or terrorists.
India plans to list TRF as a UN terror entity
