Comprehension Passage:

In a speculative scenario, imagine that Earth's atmospheric oxygen concentration gradually increases from its current level of approximately 21% to 50% over several decades. Such a shift, while theoretically enhancing the metabolic efficiency of aerobic organisms, would also bring with it unforeseen ecological and environmental challenges. The chemical reactivity of oxygen would accelerate oxidation processes, causing metals to corrode faster and organic materials to degrade more rapidly. Wildfires would become not only more frequent but also far more intense, as many materials would ignite at lower temperatures. Interestingly, some biological systems, such as certain insects, may thrive, potentially growing in size due to more efficient respiratory processes. However, humans and other large mammals might suffer from oxygen toxicity, leading to health complications. Such a transformation, while gradual, would fundamentally alter ecosystems, survival patterns, and even technological safety standards.
